PM/ Strategy roles AI safe?
I'm a software engineer with very little knowledge of what pms and strategy people do but whatever the level gpt might achieve in future, it may make coding jobs redundant but I believe product roles would still be safe
. Thoughts?
I feel given the way PMs are working in many (not all) they should be the first ones to get axed. Designs, copy writing, research, program management even writing PRDs takes a major chunk of PMs day work atleast upto couple of levels which is all possible with AI chatbots and tools. Hence, I feel every PM should upskill to ensure AI is a tool they master rather than something which can master the product
Countering your points:
- Product designers design. PMs review and finalize the design.
- AI better copywriter - agreed but that's the small chunk of pm's JD.
- Research - not sure what you wanted to convey here. If it was product research and finding gap in market, I don't think AI can do that.
- Program managers take care of program management not Product Managers.
- AI Getting better at writing PRDs - I don't think that's gonna happen, atleast anytime soon.
@Pumpkin I am not countering your point but giving example of what I am referring to. In my current company,
I do design where Dalle can help and use chatgpt for copy writing.
Ask questions on chatgpt on industry context for strategy documents. Program management required for Stakeholder alignment.
I do ask chatgpt to share user stories for certain scenarios.
I don't think PM roles are safer than sde when it comes to AI not to mention chatgpt doesn't do leetcode properly. So leetcode monkeys are going to be ok too
