Program Manager Salary in ed-tech

Hey there, I have started to apply in program manager roles in ed-techs such as Newton school, crio.do, upraised, etc. What do you think is an ideal salary to ask for this role.

Current experience- 2 years as program manager in what is called as high pace start-up.

From an industry POV, the Program manager roles in these organisations are not exactly as other Program roles in the industry, mind you! With that, even with your 2 year experience, most PMs I haven't seen rake in beyond 12-15L at most of the ed-techs (for the fact that most of the these PM roles in orgs are more academic operations related than) Unless it's a role with the founders office where people run initiatives or work on efficiencies, the salary brackets for PM would be very well under 17L in my experience.

Ohh thanks for pointing this out. Can you please help me understand what are the responsibilities in other sectors for a program manager.

My current role does involve academic operations but along with that I do have good experience in data analytics, marketing, and growth.

Well program management, for better or for worse has been made ambiguous by most orgs in the industry. Ideally to the best of my knowledge, program management dealt with working out on kinks in efficiencies and implementation.

From a sectoral view, as Prog Mang you might end up doing more operational implementation and automation if you are in SaaS, if you are in consumer tech most Prog Mang folks I've met are either part of Analytics to identify trends and build models around executing those are scale, from a FinTech PoV again you might end up doing more analytics or ops. In bigger orgs, Prog Mang are similar to the founders office who run strategic initiatives and involve cross functional work across multiple teams (think like a project manager )

Again, this is to the best of my understanding of roles and trends I've seen in these sectors and could vary with a bigger data set. So you should definitely scrape through LinkedIn to help you build patterns there :)

Hope this helps

I feel like, it can be around 15-30 LPA. Please keep in mind that you do not end up doing sales under the pretext of Program Management. Also, the pay will vary from one company to the other as well.

There would be companies that offer less amount, as well as higher amounts

Thanks for replying, yes making sure to go in ops analytics type role only.
Do you have any specific companies in mind with these packages so that I can reach out to them.

Also, hope you win your 6th title today :)

It should be around 18-22L if you are in a non-revenue (or non-sales) department

It can be around 22-28L if you are in the direct business/sales-operations/supply operations line.

Unlike the comment above, I feel one must be on the sales side of things to earn more. But yes, it is indeed a lot of hustle :)
