Public Service: Why is it that Product Influencers abuse their power?

Have been hearing from many Product aspirants that certain famous Product Influencers have scammed them with promising referrals, jobs and mentorship via their Topmate links or courses. This appears to be true across the board including Product communities that prey on these people.

What is even happening?

Controversial opinion: No quality respectable PM is going to be on TopMate. I recently saw an ex PM colleague, who was really bad at his job and had a really tough time doing basic things- call himself a product leader and post on LinkedIn about his topmate sessions. My eyes were burning.

Exactly. Product people who are out there doing all of this crap are not good at their job. No self respecting PM would do this Topmate gyaan.

@DavidRose I agree. I bet they are just PRD PMs and no problem solving in their job.

This is happening because people are just too enthralled to get into PM because they think it is a high paying job with low effort.

Most won’t get in. And that’s how the business is set up.
