Recent Layoff

Hi I have been recently laid off from my company they have given me a reason as a lack in my performance overtime although that's not entirely true but to some extent it is. I think according to my experience as SDE around 4.5 years.I don't have skills and knowledge one should have. I am a SDE 2 sometimes I think I still work and have skills as SDE 1 now I am looking for change Struggling with this thought of how to pick myself up as this condition is self inflicted

How to get back ? Can anyone here help me?

Take a paycut and join as SDE1 and like @LokiPen suggested work on yourself, when you perform at SDE 2 level while being SDE 1x that’s where you and ask for promotions

Upskill to get a job and be diligent with your work... sometimes slacking is normal, but you gotta remember, in this field, you can't stop learning, you can get slow at it but can't stop.

It seems difficult but many are on the same boat, you'll learn and get where you want. All the best.

You could upskill by learning about system design interviews . It will give you enough to land a job at an Sde2 level and you will also be exposed to the skills required to perform on the job.

SDE 2 and similar designations are generally used by startups or product based companies as per my understanding.

So I am assuming that you were working for those types of companies.

If my understanding is correct then you can probably give it a try with service based companies as generally they ask for less things than product based/startup companies.

Once you get a job there you can in parallel keep learning so that your skillsets are in sync with your YOE.

Wishing you the best!
