[Take] If you are in Data, you might make a lot of money in the next 10 years...

India represents an untapped potential for greater Internet penetration+advancements in Speed compared to other advanced economies.

This should ideally unlock greater data generation per capita. This will ideally allow us to map geo-specific patterns across e-commerce/social-networks/OTT/Finance/Healthcare/EdTech etc.

Data as a moat may just be real. Think of how you can switch to: (in this order of preference)

Data Engineering > ML/AI/Data Science > Analytics

Having YOE under your belt when the wave picks up will take you further than anyone else.

as someone who had actively used the dial up connection back in the days ... i never thought I'll see this graph so early in my lifetime.

I definitely believe there is more opportunity in data engineering compared to data science. But just the speed or amount of data may not be a good indicator of growth.

What is the diff between Engg and Science? Does one get started with Data Engg, considering so far I only have 5YOE

A simple difference is that data engineering is a sde job but in the data team handling pipelines and all.

Whereas in data science it's a combo of stat, logical reasoning and algorithms with coding

I completely agree. There is so much potential for data to tap into with many patterns to uncover, huge semi/unstructured data.
But with the development of AI, we will need to see if it uncovers those patterns or us lol.

So I will tell you another truth which I also discovered after joining product firm.

Data Engineering is a step down from both software engineering and Data science in terms of skills required. Am not belittling the importance and value creation of the job but it's how u r perceived.

From what I have seen, data engineers are treated only a little better than PMs that's all. Choose to be an SDE if you like data engineering I would say.

Data science has other problems. They are skilled no doubt but are just white elephants mostly. Choose wisely. DE is not as shiny as u r making it to be

Op is an SDE, you're a DE, so according to your logic
Nobody asked for you opinion
