What is wrong with these colleges, hearing this for the first time.
WTF.
Placement fees are taken by every college while admissions or during sem fees of placements season. It is usually a fixed amount for all. However, I'm not aware of colleges taking % of CTC as fees.
@tzr This is the first time I am hearing of this. This is such a shady practice. I have heard of no one in my entire social group who has paid this fee. Especially for something like placements.
Is this a common practice?
Yes. Maybe you forgot about paying placement fees because it has been a long time since then or because you were on scholarship.
This is from the bangalore sub right? I saw some folks commenting that this is also common in IITs.

It's kinda embedded in the tuition fee so it's not explicitly visible. Some colleges do mention this as a separate fee but again collected during the admission only.
