[Thread] What is one unexpected habit that has stuck with you ever since you were a kid?

Ever since 9th grade, I watch a football compilation video every time I am about to step on the field to play football. ⚽️🏟️

While I’m tying my shoe laces, the music thumping in my ears with cinematic visuals of the most insane football skills ever. 🤯

All throughout my college days as well, before every football game. I used to carry my headphones with me and watch a video. Emulate some flairs and new skills on the field, score long range goals and Shush the crowd. 🤫

Even today, when that time has long gone by, anytime there is a friendly Sunday match between friends. I’m sure to blast some music and just watch football before playing.

And yes, even today I get the same goosebumps as I step on the field and touch the ball. It’s the best feeling ever.

What about you? What’s the one unexpected habit that has stuck with you ever since you were a kid? 🤔💭

Scraping my mouth clean with glass rim whenever I finish my milkshake. Mom got me into a habit of this before I even had teeth, stuck ever since.

@pareshan wow that’s weirdly specific. But it just makes you wonder, how much of our current habits are a hangover from the past.

@salt I have another.

In my kinder-garden days. I was never able to understand how to tie my laces. And I thought people are just plain stupid when there are lace-less shoes available.

I promised to to become so rich that I'd buy everyone lace-less shoes and no one will have to worry. Until one day.

My mom dressed me up in the morning for school and accidently locked my zipper up way too tight. Then comes the recess, I wanted to pee. I ran to bathroom several times, but my zipper just didn't open.

I was crying in aguish. But calmed myself, "aaal izz well, aaal izz well. Chutti tk seh le. Sab theek hojayega"

Recess ends and things are now getting out of hand. We reached 7th period (second last period) and I had to open the flood gates.

I drenched my whole short, underwear, socks and shoes. I was intensely embarrassed because I just used to make fun of kids who couldn't hold their pee. Never thought karma would come around to me this bad.

I was escorted to dressing room. Where the helper lady changed my clothes and gave me spare dress to wear. When she dressed me up she told me, "joote pehen lo ab"

My shoes were laced. Already embarrassed, I told, "nhin aata". She looked at my face in disappointment and slowly taught me how to tie my shoes.

"make two mouse ears, slide it through..."

Fast forward to present. That's the only way I know how to tie me shoes. And I think of her everytime I tie my mouse ears.

P.S. I could've just said that the helper lady taught me how to tie my shoes. But plot was too spicy to ignore.

As a child I used to pick one thing and place it at another place at home and create a lot of work for my mom. Used to get scolded a lot and when I grew up got a lot of pitaee. Finally I learnt to keep things back from where I have picked. The problem is even now after finishing snacks, food or sweets I go back and keep the empty box in the fridge or from where I picked. I still don't realize soon enough.
For the past 10 years have made it a habit to check for empty packets, boxes over the weekend or during a phone call and put them in the trash. I am 37.

@MealonRusk This is so sweet actually. You were a good kid. And now you are a good 37 year old kid.

@salt I am sort of stupidly proud about keeping things back 😂

@DonQuixote147 This is so true. Especially in the summer, plus desert cooler cooling the room. 😩

It's reading for me. We had a cool rich kid in our school who once brought Tintin comics to school. Me and my bestie were hooked. We later discovered around 20 out of 36 books in the series were in the library. We used to lend the books and exchange once done. After we exhausted the series, We started reading science fiction and Harry Potter. Then came the dark ages where a guy introduced Chetan Bhagat and other pulp fictions to us(now I realise how cringe his writing is) The dark age ended with immortals of Meluha, and after that I started reading western philosphers.

I don't get much time now to read as before, but I truly love books.

@BladeRunner007 wow that sounds so amazing. We used to do the same with the Secret Seven series by Enid Blyton. Like, we used to make sure that we got mutually exclusive books hahaha.
