Venture capitalist
How much do partners at venture capital firms make annually?
I feel they make much less than an average software engineer
Is it true? What would be absolute levels
Personally know Accel India's Managing Partner, he has a top model Porsche Taycan Turbo S, an Audi Q5, and lives in a 25Cr 4 story penthouse, baaki aap decide kro kitna banate hai :)
Correct! Fund MDs and Founders with secondaries live in those 25 cr penthouses and villas in Indiranagar 😀
Completely depends on tier
Tier 2 vcs (Blume, kalaari, etc) will be 20% lower than MBB compensation. MBB compensation at partner level is comparable to directors at Google/uber. Except for the fund founder who’ll be much higher
Tier 1 VC (sequoia, accel, matrix, nexus) partners should make 1.5-2X MBB folks. Their compensations is similar to IB MDs/PE MDs (atleast 5-10 cr+ carry yearly). These folks will earn similar to Sensex 30 ceos
Tier 3 vcs (kae, indiaquotient) will make half of MBB
I assume kae IQ Blume etc are all similar
Think Blume is 2X bigger in fund size. But fair, might be similar tiers
Main point is an MD at tier 1 VC (not Founder GP) would have the same net worth as a CXO in a successful unicorn (20-100 cr). Founder GPs would be similar to founders at soonicorns (100-500 cr net worth).
Unicorn founders are completely out of bracket at 1000cr+ net worth
So - in short, no an average engineer does not make the same as a VC MD
Average software engineer in India works in WITCH companies.
Salary at VC firms
What’s the average salary range for early stage employees - Analysts and Associates at tier 1 VCs - Peak XV, Accel, Elevation Capital, Matrix Partners, etc.?
