I interviewed for a US-based company, the process started during the last week of March. The process took a month to complete, and the final round took 2 weeks to get scheduled since the director of engineering was not available. 

After all rounds were complete, it took 2 weeks for the managing director to call me and tell me about the offer.  This happened after I had to call the recruiter and ask him for updates. 

Since then the recruiter has taken some details in the past week and they made me sign a NDA. I called on Monday and they said they will release the offer by Wednesday as it's getting approved in the US. Now the recruiter is not picking up my calls. 

All this time is making me think that the recruiter is possibly considering other candidates and keeping me on hold just in case.

Do you think the recruiter is ghosting me or not taking my candidature seriously? How should I proceed?

Recruiter taking a lot of time to release the offer

Hi all,
I have been giving interviews for several IBs in last few months and i have had a very laggy, slow experience.

Namely, i have been interviewed by JPMC for about 3 profiles, Barclays for about 3 profiles, BNP Paribas and DB for about 2 profiles.

I would not disclose or discuss anything about offers. What i want to highlight is all these organizations are just taking weeks to finalize and give answer. If they like you, they would have rounds of interview in 2-3 days after each interview, but then, its radio silence. Then they either internally reject you and don't give any update or keep on window shopping with other candidates and try to find cheaper options. Then they come back if they don't find anything.
But something that they should change is transperancy.

Say exactly what is the status of a candidate. Why you want to keep on buying time.
On the contrary, i was also interviewed by EY. And they were simply the fastest and the most to the point guys.
Interviews done in 2-3 days, after final interview with director, i got a call the same evening discussing salary, etc...

No HR HR game and time wasting.

Also, none of the IBs ever update the status on online portal and when you reach out to HR for an update, all they say is its in process, waiting for business to reply and please check status online.

At times, even after months, the status stays the same.

And the worst part is, after playing their time wasting game, say if your scored an offer letter from somewhere else, they will say that this wasn't disclosed or said during the discussion. 
They should understand that if they are wasting a month of an employee on the pretext of "waiting from business for reply", it can happen. 

If any other folks have faced same issue, please share.

I personally have made a decision that if and when i do hiring or am part of hiring process, will try to be as transparent as possible and give answer atleast in a week's time to any candidate.

With my small experiences in the past, I haven't seen a good Startup with WLB for SDEs (0-3)yoe.

I want to know whether you work in a startup where there's WLB.

I understand that more work means more learning but I do not agree with this every time. There are way more SDEs working in very very small startups who have humongous learning with a pinch of money they are being paid.


For me WLB means enough time to relax and spend time with my loved ones and also less mental stress.

I have observed that the Leads/Managers will give any features no matter how complex they are, need to be built with 0 to no help specially for SDE-1 people.

And later they are blamed and scolded or they're put in PIP and ultimately thrown out.

What is your experience?

Are there any startups where WLB exists or it's just all about money and doesn't matter even if the employee is no more?

Hello good folks of grapevine, I am very confused with my situation right now. I am currently working at a consumer tech unicorn in a strategy role but really burnt out with the working environment. I have no clarity on my roles and responsibilities which keeps changing every week. I am not learning much either. I am planning to quit without any offer in hand (notice period is 2 months, I have enough to survive 5-6 months). I am an IIT-IIM graduate (old ones). Total YOE ~ 4.5 years across strategy consulting, project management and strategy at current startup. Please suggest. Folks who have quit without any offer in hand, how did it work out for you?

I  competed interviews with a Seed stage start-up. The interview went well and the VP of Sales let me know they were ready to extend an offer while speaking. After negotiating my salary to a level all parties were comfortable with, I verbally confirmed I would accept and we scheduled a follow-up. The VP told me to rest assured and congratulated me.

On our follow-up, the VP asked if I could wait for two weeks more (at most) for the official offer. The VP said there were some organizational changes in the works that needed to be sorted out, but that they are still bullish on me and I am to be the very next hire if I can wait the up to 14+ days. He assured me he was not pitting other candidates against me, but that he needed more time.

I felt it was odd, given we had discussed my timeline. I have been actively interviewing and now I am hesitant to let my other offers stand idle, even though this opportunity is the one I am most interested in.

I am looking for advice on how to approach this, what I should do regarding other offers vs this offer, and what I should communicate to the company/VP

Hello, its been on my mind for sometime. Im in a job which doesn’t seem to be going in any direction (gate walled, no clarity, team politics) and getting fed up over last few months. Two days back I had a call with Walmart Hr regarding offer. I gave my previous compensation 22 l fixed 2 bonus 5 per year esops. 
I said 29 L fix as expectation. (Though I am okay with better than 22 l ) as I know I have very less skills and I need to learn a lot to get a good salary tbh.
I joined as SDE last company but exited as sde 2. My increment would have happened in October but got laid off in Sept. 
So she said no for this salary and didn't give a good feeling that a good salary she will propose and said we can't give this definitely be ready for negotiation kind off.

So. Are there any points that I can use for negotiation?
I am an immediate joiner. 
If I join Walmart then it would be my 3rd company in 3.5 years of my career and j don't want to make job hops.

I have nobody who can give me some advice.


So, in my head I think I can take whatever my salary is and after working on my weak areas are and then after 1.5 years change to a better company but another job hop will happen.
I am not working since the past 5 months. 
Don't know how to handle thoughts in my head.

Need suggestion in negotiation

My current job is consuming me completely. I don't get to upskill myself. Therefore, I am stuck in this vicious cycle where I want to leave my organization to work in a better environment along with skilled colleagues. However, to do this, I will have to upskill myself.

People who have left a job without another lined up, how have things worked out for you?

It has been 25 days since I got laid off from the startup that I was working for. I have given a few interviews. Got rejected in 1st or 2nd rounds in a few, went till the last round n rejected in a couple and haven't heard back from the HR in a few. Not hearing back, unanswered calls, delays in rounds etc. cause a lot of anxiety and impacts my confidence and preparation levels. How do I tackle it? 
Also, unable to find fresh openings in product/ strategy roles for past few days. This also adds to pressure and uncertainty.

In short, it is a very troubling phase. How do I deal with it? Need enormous help from all of you folks. Would love to hear some great thoughts / insights / hacks too.

The company I used to work for recently shut down and I just received my first offer from a sizeable unicorn. 

I am being massively low-balled (20% cut). And on top of it, it's an exploding offer. 

I have a couple of interviews lined up (they start after May 28th) but at the moment, this is the only offer I have. 

What should I do?

1. Hard negotiate? Leave the offer on the table if it doesn't work out. 

2. Soft negotiate. Get the offer. Interview with other companies and try to get a better offer before joining (feels wrong)

Things to consider:

- I have 10+ months runway
- Last cash comp was 24L at 2.5YOE

I'm leaning towards 1.

I'm being lowballed. What should I do?

Suffering from success. 24L base for <2.5 yoe was already high. And that’s the reason why u have so much runway. Good luck on whatever u decide.

I have given interviews and cleared them.
I got a call from HR asking for payslips and another offer details.

They said they will get back with offer.

How to go about here? If they come with a lower offer than what i asked, how much liberty i have to ask further.
Does HR will come with 2-3 various levels of offer and then try to negotiate with me.

How does salary negotiation before offer work

Don't share payslips yet if possible. Do it after finalising your offer details. 
  
 What information have you shared? Current compensation? Expected range? Do you have any other offers in hand? 
  
 The game that follows now is that of leverage of information vs offer expiry timelines. 
  
 They will share an offer. You can call it "interesting" but don't share more details on if you like it or not - you need to "think more" before you can share your opinion. Say that you need to discuss it with your well-wishers and also evaluate compared to other opportunities. 
  
 Get back to them on email and call the offer "strong" (if it is really good) or "interesting" (for all other cases). Suggest some improvements to the offer that would make it more compelling for you. Don't guarantee that you will accept the offer if these things are provided (unless it's your last day till offer expiry). Keep negotiating with everyone that is interesting and keep dropping the non-interesting ones. 
  
 Also, don't call the negotiation discussions a "negotiation" - that word sounds negative. Call it "discussing offer details" or something. 
  
 FYI: All of these tips are from the highly popular negotiation blog posts by Haseeb. They've worked well for me.

I've been working as a React developer for almost 3 years (2 years, 9 months) plus had a 3-month internship. I'm looking to make a career move to a company that offers better mentorship and growth opportunities, but my current job requires a 3-month notice period before leaving. 

I'm struggling with a few aspects of navigating this job change given the long notice period:

1) Finding Companies Open to Waiting
How do I identify companies that would be willing to wait the full 3 months for me to start after giving notice? When and how should I bring up the notice period requirements during the application/interview process?

2) Getting Referrals
My professional network is somewhat limited. What are the best ways to try securing internal referrals to companies I'm interested in, which could help increase flexibility around waiting for my start date?

3) Preparing for Interviews  
Besides the standard technical preparation, what is the best way to practice for and respond to questions about my reasons for leaving my current role after such a long tenure? How can I reassure them I'm committed despite the extended notice period?

4) Evaluating Offers
If a company is unwilling to wait the full 3 months, is it worth trying to negotiate a shorter notice period or looking at temporary/contracting roles until I can start full-time? How do I evaluate whether the role is worth that hassle?

I want to be as prepared as possible for this transition, so any advice or suggestions from folks who have gone through a job change with a long notice period would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what you think or if you have any other tips.

How Can I Successfully Change Jobs With a 3-Month Notice Period?

So I interviewed with a company two months ago, after all the formalities were done, I received a response from the HR that I have cleared all the rounds. But the requirements for the position they were hiring me for suddenly changed and they asked me to wait for a while until a new position positions opens up matching my tech stack. At that time I was about to be released from a project in my current company so getting the notice period reduced to 2 months was not that much of a hassle. 
Today, the HR called me again telling me that a new position has been opened up and if I am available to join I can join. My official period is of 90 days and now I have been allocated to a new project in my current company.
I have been wanting to switch since so long because of variety of reasons. But the problem now is the notice period in my current company. The HR is very strict about joining within the 60 days but I am not getting any vibe that my current manager is going to reduce my notice period.

Please suggest if there are any ways out of it.
