What all you look for in PM interns
I'm preparing for PM intern interviews. Please share some tips for interviews. What topics I need to cover and areas I need to work upon.
Thanks
A few things, I look are:
- Their ability to break down the big pieces into smaller units (at least showing the traits)
- How curious are they? (not just consuming things and they simply "act" on it)
- Thinking process
- Managing up/Communication
For this, I generally give them a case study such as "Build a smartphone for blind people" and now see how they think about it and don't just come to conclusions. Of course, I'm not expecting the entire process but expecting them to understand, think, and ask questions.
Of course, I'm not expecting the entire process, but I'm expecting them to understand, think, and ask questions, which generally gives an overall picture.
Interesting problem. I was working on it a couple of weeks back, need to go through it again. Thanks for your inputs.
Hard skills (SQL, Excel) : might not be mandatory for all but good to have and make you more independent as a PM, how good are you in terms of crunching numbers and getting insights from them, problem-solving and zeal to learn.
That's just me, other people might have different opinions.
Seems fair enough. But a couple of interviewers don't seem fairly impressed by a startup experience of mine, maybe they don't see a decent scale achieved while positioning my startup in the market. There might be other factors too which I need to reflect upon
