Why is insurance not a preferred industry for job seekers in general?
Context - I’ve been in the industry for a decade now. Industry pay and other metrics are actually not that bad. Just never felt that it gets the same attention as banking/ consulting/ investing, etc. I feel there is a genuine lack of quality in the talent in the industry.
Insurance companies are sales driven orgs where the majority of focus is on sales teams. Also it being a push product, and given the low financial literacy in our country, companies find ways to push the policies (other than tier1) to customers somehow who doesn't need it. I was part of the persistency team and know how much mis-selling happens. Personally, I didn't prefer to be in that industry when I don't believe in the product/processes. Also the pay is less compared to other industries.
