Why is it so hard to get into an APM role? (read below)

Hi everyone, I'll cut right to the chase I have had 6 months of experience as a product intern and I'm trying to get into an APM role for the past 3 months. I have not been able to get any interviews or calls for an APM role. The only calls I get are for product intern roles. Is 6 months of experience not enough to move into a full time role??? I've done my engineering, completed my MBA from a tier 1 institute yet I'm not being considered as a qualified candidate. The past 3 months have really taken a toll on my mental health and everyday feels like a burden.

I would really appreciate if you all could guide me on what to do because I have no clue where I'm going.

Brother i feel you cuz I’m in the same boat. Have 1.5 y exp as PM and APM post MBA and still haven’t landed a job since being laid off around New Years. It’s a terrible, terrible time. Thinking of taking up any other job now. :(

APM role requirements vary by orgs. In a couple of orgs I know, need 2 to 3 yrs experience as a business analyst or product analyst first

Yeah, I've seen requirements like 5+ YOE for an APM role. It's wild

A hack into PM role is actually to work as a product intern. if you are good, the company will automatically promote you to APM or PM based on your previous experience. Gate crashing may not work much. PM role requires a mix of business, tech, design and ops know how and claiming to know this in 6 months could be tough for companies to digest. Take the intern job and move up the ladder by proving you are better than existing PMs. 😉

I guess this is the way

Product marketing is good role to start with and jump ship into product management when the market starts hiring.

What would be pre-requisites for the role? Any specifics?
