Family said I am good for nothing but I finally I got an offer from Google

My father worked as a peon when I was a kid. I barely had any friends and could not afford any toys. He used to work really long hours everyday. He was sleeping when I went to school and I was sleeping when he got back from work. So we never really talked. I was not good at studies during school, later I got to know that I had severe ADHD. My teachers used to say that I am good for nothing and very talkative all my life which gave me a lot of anxiety. I got into a CSE at a Tier 2 college. This was with the help of my cousin sister who used to tutor me after school and taught me how to think from fundamentals. In college my seniors used to do a lot of ragging and make us not have food in the hostel mess. I lost a lot of weight and ended up with jaundice. This was the reason why I had a very bad CGPA in first year, <6. Slowly over the years I was able to bring it over 7. I got into a service based company after college with a CTC of 3.75 LPA. I did not have any offers and I did not have anyone for guidance in my life. That is when I started to pick up some freelancing gigs and talked to people from other countries and cultures which educated me about top tech companies. So I started preparing for that. I was rejected a total of 4 times by Amazon which completely broke me from the inside. Meanwhile my father got stomach cancer and he passed away. To this day my deepest regret is that my father did not see me finally achieving success in my life and till his last moments I am sure he thought of me as a failure son. As I moved through my career I made a goal of reaching Google. I prepared very hard for an entire year with a lot of studying and preparation. Finally I got into Google. My family became very happy for me as I was the first person in my entire extended family to get such a package. After a lifetime of struggle I was finally content with where I am. My only wish is that my father was here and his struggle for providing me with the best was not wasted.

I am 33M, started working at 20. Earned 87LPA when I was dropped off in June 23. I am a very responsible person who had taken care of everything in the family for quite some time. My parents and relatives and everyone else who know me well, know this and kost have appreciated this at some point. My sister separated from her husband 6 months after my marriage and had been living with me and my wife since then till COVID hit. My mother has anger issues and my father is very obedient to her. I love my parents and they loved me I think. Post COVID I moved to my hometown (because family) and things started going downhill. My mother will almost entire day find every faults in my wife and share it with everyone with an angry tone. I just listened to her initially for 2 years but at times I told her that it's enough. Now she has started fighting me. After the fight I would go and apologize to her knowing that it's not my fault just to make things right. This time when my mother fought with me she taunted me that you will come back and apologize. This hurted me even more than the fight. Now I am not going back to apologize and she's escalating it every day. Convinced my father and my eldest sister(happily married) that I am a bad son. Shares messages like "maa bap ko pareshan krne vale bachho ko kya fal milta hai" in WhatsApp groups. She has even asked me to vacate home. I am unemployed at the moment and I told her I will when I have a job. I don't know how to deal with it. I can't convince people in the family that she has anger issues.

During my B.Tech, I balanced my studies with active participation in clubs and committees, and also engaged in sports and exploration. Aspiring for a non-core placement, I didn't participate in hackathons or apply for internships. After graduation, I pursued various paths, including preparing for the CAT exam with only three months of preparation time, but I didn't succeed. I then applied to several companies for data analytics roles but kept making new mistakes in each attempt. In one instance, I was rejected for oversharing my passion for data science in a final interview. To improve my chances, I optimized my resume and completed significant projects, but these efforts haven't yet yielded the desired results. Realizing the challenges of relying on a single target, I also started preparing for the GATE exam. Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that I should have applied for on-campus opportunities, as off-campus job hunting is challenging and unpredictable, regardless of one's preparation. Life has become so dry and meaningless nowadays. Struggle connects us on some level. I’d love to hear your stories of struggle and how you overcame it. Here’s my story. I studied B.E for 7 years because of backlogs. Every year was a new batch, no friends. Extreme depression, humiliation everywhere. Isolated myself from an extremely judgmental society. Confidence had no meaning in my life. Somehow struggled and cleared all the backlogs. Studied programming and web design. Started working for free. After 1 year, first salary was 2k per month. Then 18k. Then 30k. I always felt dumb because of the backlogs. Want to rectify it. So went to the US with the only admit I got. Studied my ass off. GPA 3.95. But I was broke again. Cried my eyes out multiple times because I had no money for food. Couldn’t tell this to parents. Found a job later after many many applications. Happiest moment of achievement was when I bought my first 43 inch LED TV. With my own money. Current pay: over 2L / mo.

Apart from salaries, what are some compelling reasons that make you prefer US over EU/Canada inspite of immigration hurdles that's akin to walking on egg shells? What's your rationale behind not pursuing opportunities in Europe or Canada where it's possible to get a similar quality of life, lesser immigration related headaches, better work life balance, healthcare that doesn't burn a hole in your wallet, etc.

A faded memory dawned on me early this morning while commuting to work, as I saw few kids leaving for school. A few years back, I was teaching underprivileged children in a distant government school as a part of a social initiative. We asked kids, What do you want to become when you grow up?” I really felt humbled and privileged when the kids responded with Policeman, Driver, Mechanic, Patwari(govt official who keeps record of lands) etc. We even remarked that whether they would prefer to be a pilot. And they responded with No. Perhaps, it was representative of things that they knew could achieve and things they could not. It may even have been that their initial choices were likely due to positions of power that they had witnessed and wanted to emulate. Probably, they were not exposed to various options that exist out there. As my cab whirred away, I was left with a deep sense of gratitude upon recollection of those memories. I really hope those kids achieve whatever they set their sights at.

Qualifications: BTech IT from tier-3 college, Pass Out in 2021, CGPA 7 Skills: Python + DSA (Intermediate), HTML, CSS, JS (Intermediate). In 2021 I was preparing for government job and was really passionate about govt services but I failed in CDS II 2021 and lose all of my focus and my parents want me to get a job in related field so in January 2022 I started looking for job in IT but I was not good at anything and so I thought I wasn't job ready and start learning to Python and DSA and Web Development but in meantime I procrastinated and wasted so much of my time I was demotivated with zero focus and after months I am still not good at anything I don't have anything to show on my resume no projects, no experience nothing. I have wasted more than a year just thinking what should I do and got nowhere. Lately I started to learn web dev from theodinproject.com and have completed foundations. Tbh i wasted time during this learning phase also and manage to complete this in a month. And after that I started to learn reactjs (haven't completed it yet) And now I am really desperate for a job. What should I do to get a job with minimum preparation like give 1 months and get a job? I am not looking for something specific. I don't have any goals. ATM I have no idea what I am passionate about. I'm 24 and unemployed and How can I turn my life around? All those years in school and college I never worked hard enough but now I regret it. I want to work hard now but have been procrastinating a lot. I need guidance on how to get a job and what to learn further to get a job. I would really appreciate it if you guys can guide me.

I often feel that I am under qualified for my job and have been able to clear all the rounds by pure luck. I think that if I go out in job market I won't be able to again bag such a good offer... Does any one else also feel so... How to overcome with this feeling...
