1Cr base salary India vs $300K Meta base US

Is it really worth it based on any metrics(PPI etc) to stay in the US If you have 1cr base cash salary India?

Asking for a friend: Age 31. 10 yrs work experience in tech.

What I have studied and learnt from different folks. A $100K salary in US is equivalent to ~25L salary in india. This is called PPP( purchasing power parity)

It should be easy to make decision now.

It' should not be seen or compared on PPP basis. But quality of life. Anything above 200k, I would say US is better.
In India money matters only if you are struggling to make ends meet. The quality of life of US cannot be replicated here unless you are into civil services.

Loll. You have a very narrow definition of quality of life my friend.

You can enjoy your 1 Cr base stuck in traffic, breathing horribly polluted air, drinking shit water and paying bribes for every little thing in India or you can enjoy 300K plus clean air, good roads, systems that work with visa uncertainty in the US. 300K in the US over 1 Cr in India for me.

Before folks rip me, have lived in the USA for years before having to return due to shit luck in the H1B lottery.

Truer words weren’t said. Curious if you’re willing to share - your ctc in US and now in india? Assuming you are a developer

300k in meta as growth potential in US is high ..India companies max out at 1 cr pay also in US if you can save , u can save a lot but in india saving will be limited only as tax rate is very high in india. If looking from money Lena US is anyday better. But if you are looking from lifestyle sense India is better as you can live like king at 1 cr afford maids , servants , drivers even PA. That you can't afford in US.

Even Rippling not paying over 1cr base?

Based on PPP, 1 cr in india is better and would be equivalent to 430k in US.

1 cr in India would be hella lit. 🔥

The only reason to move abroad now is: currency arbitrage.

Anything less than 3x in TC between Indian and US a clear no unless the US lifestyle is something that enamours you in which case stop doing TC conversions and go live your life.

Ideal ratio is 3.5x - 4x+ which is what PPP conversion also indicates.

The real problem in the initial years of moving to the US is that you are taxed like you are rich but your NW level is pretty poor.

Takes years of grinding to get past that.

The Indian salary is way higher than the Meta number. You have to consider other non-monetary factors

What about stock options, stocks must be much higher at Meta.

That India also has. Plus bonus. So not pegging that

Depends on social / family outlook and what they really want. After a certain the threshold on the tradeoff of sacrifice is crossed.

Living in the US is not for everyone, the money ramp and opportunity at better roles can be excellent though.

The only counterbalance is that a lot of roles are now out of India and increasingly getting better in terms of options.
