Depressed

I am in 2nd year in college pursuing computer science..so far most of the time i do competitive programming and sometimes web development..i am working hard but because of the never ending depressing posts on LinkedIn and blind about layoffs and recession plus no hiring in big tech..i feel that all my hard work will be not worth it in future..also the people have made this wonderful field a joke by this standup comedians who joke about engineers every time.........i really want to contribute to this society and earn great amount of money as well but the hope is decreasing day by day.. What should I do😔😢?

Skills you learn won't go waste anytime.Maybe try building apps for problems around you. Only thing we can do is try, outcome we should not expect.

Really? because my freaking relatives say that in this field the input is 1 and output is 0.i mean i don't accept that but in this country as there is so much saturation of engineers, even those engineers who make great money and have good job are not that much respected as they should.

You are just in 2nd yr. All this recession and layoffs will be long gone by the time you graduate. Just focus on preparing well for interviews and gain some internship experience. Try for some open source experience as well. Don't worry.

Engineering has become like a springboard for starting your career. An engineering degree by itself will just enable you to get access to jobs. A better college will increase that access much more significantly. But you gotta build your skill set in any job/domain you choose. That will define how employable you are. If you are good at what you do and a problem solver, you will have no dearth of opportunities. I strongly feel we are entering a new era of employment where your educational pedigree/ college might just not be sufficient to guarantee any employment, you will have to prove what value you can bring.

You have a long way to go, don't worry about all this uncertainty. Keep building, keep learning, you will end up in good places eventually. Online media focused more on doom and gloom. It's not like that everywhere. Granted economy is down, it will eventually bounce back up. Also I know several folks comfortably making 70L+ in this economy. It's not as bad as you see on these sites.

When I was in 2nd year, I was just thinking of how to pass the semester subjects, and how to enjoy college life (dreaming of crushes, movies, going places around). In our times too, there was 2008 recession (our seniors must have faced the brunt), but we had hardly bothered. So you seem to have just a pessimistic approach. Or you are spending too much time among wrong people, and reading wrong type of social media posts. Get away from all of that. Focus on your college life.

Just a long rant about life

When i was in college i wanted to build my own company/product. Thought of many ideas and tried to build something. None of them worked and it affected my studies so I had to quit just to clear my exams. After college I took placements in a WITCH like company where I got put into data entry/operations job after clearing difficult coding interviews (kismat kharab?). Somehow learnt new technologies on the side and managed to switch to a development role at a lower salary in a startup. After 3 years Worked hard on DSA and (barely) managed to get a good offer with above average pay. But the company is not stable anymore and may layoff at any time. Right now struggling to learn enough DSA to crack any company. Now I am almost 30, i have no hobbies,no talents, no relationships just trying to have a stable career. I see people everywhere doing so many things at once. How do they manage to do this. They are working at FAANG and managing businesses at the same time, have a bunch of friends. What am I doing wrong?

I thought I could easily get 15 lpa job ( my bad ) . But now I want to switch from here within a year . What should I do ?

Wasted my college life, will I be able to do the hardwork now and get a job.

I am a final year b.tech cse student, I don't know much coding, but have an experience of 1 year internship at samsung, but stilk unplaced, I have lost all my confidence, I wasted too much time doing other things than coding, now if i have to start over again to get a job, is it possible for me to get it in 2-3 months.

I'm currently working in a service based company from last 2.5 years. I had joined there as a fresher. The project that I'm working on had som growth initially but now there's literally no growth. I'm doing the same exact thing every single day and despite working extra hard all year long, I was not given any hike! I'm really feeling depressed right now. Please help. I've wasted 2.5 years of my life and I've hardly any expertise in any of the tech I've worked on.

The unluckiest batch?

After seeing current placement stats of top IITs, even after Day6 not even 50% of the batch is unplaced can we say that 2024 is the unluckiest batch? Students with good CGPA, having internships in reputed internships are not getting placed. It's worse for mediocre students. What are alternativev for these unplaced students?

Depressed because I am not getting a job

Hi everyone I am a fresher and still hasn't got a job i will br graduating this year and I am very scared and depressed due to this i am having intense headache daily due to tension idk what to do and I got in one company 5 months back and now they're saying to take interview again. These things are affecting my mind very much and isk what to do maybe you guys can give some tips I keep applying off campus but I am not getting shortlisted it's very depressing.

Feeling depressed at Amazon(2YOE/41L CTC). Anyone else feeling the same way?

I can't seem to relate to much of the non-FAANG junta out there. I mean I have a cushy job with probably 0.1% pay of all SWEs(pretty much like all of us do). But these cookie-cutter roles have been taking a mental toll on me. Like I am getting paid but I feel a little purpose-less. What am I gunning for in this life? All my life I wanted to go to a good college to get into a good company. In college I wanted to get a good codeforces rank so that I could get into FAANG. Now that I am in FAANG I have nothing to look forward to. Any of you all feeling this way? Because I don't see myself offer-shopping and feeling much happy about that either.

Placement dilemma, recession,job cuts , suggestions ??

Am currently in a circuital branch of a nit (graduating in 2025) preparing for tech jobs , not one of those brilliant minds , okayish on leetcode trying to cover major dsa topics and important questions. But everyday I keep hearing about layoffs, AI, recession, cost cutting etc Should I do something different, should I keep preparing for tech jobs or I should shift to core jobs or GATE, really confused !!

Feeling dejected, demotivated, loser

I interned at a company for more than 10 months. Gave my heart and soul to it They made me work late nights, gave me so much work I completed them all And now they denied a full time offer citing budget reasons I feel like a loser now. This is so not fair. Now placements at college are also over so theres no hope left Completely loss of words. I don't know what to do Can someone please guide me
