Current State of Product Management on E-commerce
Hi Peeps, Wanted to know how the Product department of Indian Ecommerce companies like Amazon, Ajio, Meesho, Pepperfry and Luxury Closet. I'm coming from B2B space and would like to understand if I should accept the offer from the 1 of the companies above. Any and All discussion is extremely appreciated. I'm interested in understanding their culture, wlb and growth as PM.
Hi! I work in the B2B space as a Product Manager, so I guess I qualify to answer the question. I think you should definitely accept it. Besides the learnings at this job, you also will have a great career path. IDK if yours is a Tech PM or Ops PM but in either function you will always have to think about the customer journey from a complete operational perspective alongside your typical data based decisions. And I am sure you use ecom to order products online so there's a lot of prior idea on what works. And I find a lot of satisfaction when I've solved a problem that's bugging thousands of customers. The job let's you have a direct impact on other's lives.

Sure, Man. I've not been specified about the project I'll be working within, but I'm quite open to understanding the e-commerce side of PM.
How often is optimization of customer journey a task taken up. E-commerce might require high amount of UX research as well, so how do you deal with it? afaik the company might not have a UX research team rn and they want me to lead such kind of initiatives.
To your first question - how often is optimization of customer journey taken up? In my experience, very often. I am the PM for returns, refunds, and logistics. That requires me to constantly think about better customer experience. Such as, what should I do so that the customer has faster delivery? Items delivered in 3 days, 2 days, 1 days, infact sometimes within hours!! All of this without hampering any customer experience and ensuring quality service because some of these brands are extremely high-end serving celebrities. Not to say that other customers are not equally important. The point I'm trynna make is you will be constantly thinking on your feet.
To your other question, B2B may or may not require heavy UX. Depends on your role and scope of project. But if it does, you have got ample of methods. A/B test tops the list. Since you are just starting out, I think A/B tests will help you make correct data drive decisions.
