How do you guys deal with Office politics.

I was currently in a project with no proper planning and the majority of the code written by team mates are full of bugs. The code is being written for a new application not yet deployed or in the testing stage so no way of knowing the bugs. If I point out the bugs I end up fixing them and it is getting really frustrating. But I can't just look away. I'm 💯 sure this application won't even work. Should I just ignore and continue my work?

I work at this desi startup, and this other day my CTO invites me to a call in late hours while he was testing a new feature he found some issues in part of the code that an ex employee wrote. I told him I don’t have idea about this specific thing as the ex employee built that out(he was fairly old there and I’m quite new in the company) so I don’t know why he built it that way and if certified functionality exists. Than he started rambling that I’m Sr. Engg here so I should think about things end to end(the ex emp was also Sr.) and said that it was “concerning” that rather than knowing something I answered with I don’t know as he built that part. Some more context - I was given this feature in haphazard manner in small parts and later I become the one who worked majorly on it but the initial setup and some flow of the code was written by the ex emp. Btw from my colleagues I got to know that he gives bad reviews to mostly everyone and expects everyone to work extra hard though this is the 2nd time he’s given me a concerning review. What would you do if you were in my case? Should I retaliate by confronting him or let it be because he has a habit of doing this.

How to deal with situations where you have given your best and contributed a lot to the project/Organisation (which is tangible) but the efforts don't get reflected in your performance appraisals and promotions due to office politics? You don't get promoted because the boss's favourite needs to be promoted despite sub-par performance. Shifting the job isn't an option for a few years considering responsibilities, lack of good paying jobs in finance and the Organisation is really good.

I have one question for everyone. How do you resolve your issues if you have issues with your manager or lead? Or How do you build a trust if the trust is broken because of some delayed work, wrong work, wrong design, or something you did wrong in the past and he/she still judges you based on that but you're now doing better?

I'm feeling really stuck and frustrated at work lately. Despite putting in my best efforts and consistently performing well, it seems like my manager is feeling threatened by my progress. He’s been rejecting my ideas and work without even reviewing them, and calling me out in meetings for not completing non-priority tasks. The environment has become really toxic and it's taking a toll on me. Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you handle it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So During our scum calls with client my manager gives update for whole team himself and doesnt let us update on the task which we have worked on ourself . Mf just grabs all the glory in pursuit for good feedback from client side meanwhile he does nothing technical and during internal meeting he says you guys should speak more with client and ALSO he ask for everyone's update on task before scrum and then pokes why is it not done even on task whose estimated completion date/time is far away. So annoying and frustating . Just a rant from your average software dev . Do give any solution you might have . 🙂 Thanks for reading.

Hi all, I am currently interning at a US medical device healthcare giant. Its been close to 5 months I'm here. Till now I haven't been assigned any implementation tasks All I get to do is dry runs, debugging and documentation PPO is also not guaranteed. It's based on performance. I feel very scared what would happen if I don't get the PPO. Apart from that, I feel shy asking help from seniors because a) They are super busy. Always on meetings b) I feel they would think I'm stupid for asking silly doubts Even no proper KTs have been given. It's like F around and figure out. Please advice me how to actually come out of this situation. This is my first corporate experience and I feel worried and scared each day

I'm a product manager myself and I've been noticing this mentality. Founders of pre-PMF stage companies, having raised tons of money in the bull market in a last couple of years, have hired tons of resources with no clarity and vision whatsoever. They continue to ignore they're building a product nobody wants. They barely talk to users. On top of it, they hire Product Managers thinking it's a silver bullet and will solve PMF issues. It's founders responsibility to figure out PMF and not anybody's else. You need to get in the weeds and not throw money at problems. It just doesn't end there. These companies with average talent pool and the kind of culture that sets it top-down because of these average founders, expect PMs to own everything and fix everything. Everybody from Tech to Marketing shrugs off from the responsibility expect PMs to tell what needs to be done. This chutiya mindset of 'sit and wait' until a PM tells let breeds more inefficiency as output becomes slower as nobody is incentivised to think and take decisions. Also, everybody enjoys doing what are being told because no consequences if things blow up. Hire competent people across functions and get involved in product building. It's already too late to fix it if this resonates with you.

I'm a software engineer with 2 years of experience. I feel like I don't have programming acumen and can't understand things like others. I really struggle at my job and has to give extra time even weekend to perform at my job. I don't understand big codebase, integration services. I feel like quitting this job and do something else but can't gather enough courage as job is paying well and paying my education loan also. Please suggest what should I do? How can I become better at my job and do well without feeling humiliation daily

How do you guys deal with toxic people in tech, especially when they are your seniors or you work with them everyday? We are a small team and the senior I have is an extremely shit person. We decide something while design discussions, and product discussion but he changes his mind and asks to completely revamp the solution after it's implemented. Extremely close-minded to new or different ideas or different ways of doing things. Also frequently insults people on the call. I know one solution is to leave the company but that can't always be the case and when the team is small, sometimes these people become unavoidable. So looking for ideas on how other people deal with toxic peers/seniors in their workplace.
