Was having a conversation with my SO today. I think we’re probably the last generation who watched animated shows on TV as kids, as now the new trend is of “iPad” babies who watch content online? We started discussing about how the channel you used to watch as a kid tells you so much about that person. Like kids that watch Nickelodeon were so different than the kids who used to watch Disney. And the Cartoon Network kids were unhinged. 👀 Man, I don’t know how old is this audience but we used to have shows like Avatar-The Last Airbender, Kochikame, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon. And much before that Oswald, Noddy, Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls etc. What is your favourite animated show from back in the day? Would love to hear some stories. I used to watch all the shows you mentioned. I kept circling between Nick, Disney, CN, POGO, etc. Kochikame's OP was a banger. RIP Yu-Gi-Oh's creator, dude was a legend.
One day, a new channel popped up called 'Animax' which was like a TV serial channel but for anime & I fell down that rabbit hole 🫡

Yeah, dude. Animax pioneered the Anime on TV concept in India. I haven’t watched a lot of anime but Avatar the Last Airbender is really amazing.

My memories would be a "bit" different from the general populace here. Born and brought up in Kerala, in mid-late 90s, I grew up reading the following magazines:
1. Kaatile Kannan - story about a baby elephant in a forest
2. Meesha Maarjaran - a cat who had huge whiskers
3. Magic Maalu - the Rabbit who was a brilliant magician
4. Maayavi - kinda like a Malayali Genie
By the 2000s, I got exposure to
1. Pokemon. PS: The Kissan Jam was a regular buy thanks to the free Diamond cards!
2. Courage the Cowardly Dog
3. Scooby Doobee Do
4. The Powerpuff Girls
5. Shaktimaan
6. Om Namah Shivaya
@Vforvendatto I feel we were the last of this generation to have a love for Comics and Cartoons. Then the next gen switched to the Internet.
Wow, Magazines that you mentioned sound really fun. I remember we used to get Champak or some other kind of comic/magazine on the railway station before heading for summer vacations.
Then, chilling in an AC Chair Car we used to read and relax while they used to bring out food that used to wait for. 🥺
I’ve never been to Kerala but I would love to visit Gods Own Country. Would love to experience the culture and heritage.

Oh lord! This post and comment section just transported me to back to my school days! Lovely :') I remember how I included Kochikame, Pokémon, Son Pari, Disney Channel shows, etc in my study timetable and alloted specific time slots as per the show timings. Good old days :')

Yess!! While I'd wait for my school van, I'd do that and sometimes in the school library. Also, remember, cartoon network had birthday shoutouts, we had to email them with our birth date.

We used to watch Power zone. In that few shows are there
1. The Centurions
2. Captain planet
3. Thunder cats
4. Swat cats
Some other classics are.
1. The Flintstones
2. The Jetsons
3. X-Men evolution
Disney was also good back then
1. The Gummy bears ( the gummy berry juice)
2. Duck tales
3. Talespin
Oh yes, The Jetsons and The Flintstones were the oldie shows that I got to watch.
I haven’t heard of the rest of them, probably far too young for them.

@Elon_Musk Oh my God! how did I forget BeyBlade. We had Max, Tyson and Ray. Also, Dragoon was the Tyson’s beast.
That was so much fun, we used to play in a Kadhai because none of us bothered to get a stadium so we used to battle our beyblades in there.
Ah, Pokémon is so good. Ash, Misty and Brock going ahead and trying to get those badges for Indigo League.
There was also a movie where Ash and Co. meet Mew and Mewtwo.

Born in early 90s to a middle class family. Used to watch Shaktiman on Sundays and multiple mythological serials.
In cartoons, watched Simba the lion King on Sahara channel, Noddy, Oswald, Thomas the train, Bob the builder, captain planet, powerpuff girls, Dexter's laboratory etc on Cartoon network.
How can I forget chip and dale, Scrooge mcduck etc.
Life used to be simpler!

I remember MAD. Used to wait till the end of the show to see rob unfold his magic. He used to make some damn good art on a big canvas at the end of show.

Spent my childhood seeing Kochikame, Dbz and shinchan. Later my younger brother came him and he used to see doramon , oswald , perman and some other shows.

I used to have tuitions and started playing basketball when turned 12 so never got time to watch later. Younger brother used to have doramon up the whole day so had to force watch it.

@CorpMafia Kids Next Door and Detective Conan were so good. But I think they did not dub the entire show and telecasted only a small part of it.

I grew up watching shows on Nickelodeon, CN, Pogo and Disney. Later Animax came and boy oh boy! What an addiction that was. 🤍 Anime is my first love, to be precise, Naruto. 🤍✨
It's weird how a fictional character can influence you so much, after my mom, if there's anybody that inspires me, it's this character Naruto. I am what I am today, cuz of that show. It really did a number on me!
I have all the episodes (Sub+Dub) of it saved in a HD, so that I future I sit and re-watch it with my kids.
90s was a golden Era for Animated shows, it's all dust now.

I still remember, when my best friend told me to watch this series, I was in 10th grade and it was summer vacay, I was like "cartoon dekhnai Kai liye time nahi hai", But she insisted and said "you watch one episode, and you'll come running to me for more episodes". I was like, itna kya hai isme, and that's how I binge watched the entire Naruto season in 10 days. I was addicted to the inspiration it gave throughout all the episodes.

We never had TV at my home, even though my father was financially capable to have. We used to go to other neighbour’s home to watch TV. All kids used to sit on floor mats in groups and used to watch- “Chandrakanta ki kahani, ye hai to badi purani…”, anybody remembers that song😊 And then of course there was this “Shaktimaan Shaktimaan Shaktimaan”. There was a series on “Aladin” too
@shpinq Yeah I have observed that technology had community driven experiences in India probably because of cost prohibitive nature of latest tech.
It definitely yielded to unique experiences for everyone.

Ppg, dexter top 2. But used to be huge cartoon watcher, i have seen cartoons on every channel possible at that time. Non cartoon: nothing tops or will ever top 'legend of the hidden temple'.
@AstroBubbles Your parents let you? Mine used to carefully monitor what shows I could watch and what shows I couldn’t. So, I couldn’t really see cartoons on every channel possible.
The saddest part used to be when two favourite shows aired at the same time and you had to switch between both when the ad began on one. This was the only way to watch it at the same time. 😭
