Tier-3 dilemma - a sophomore

I am a student doing my internship at a startup in Bangalore. I get paid very less. I want to join a product based company. I didn't do much of either competitive programming or DSA. Currently i am learning DSA and planning to start Competitive programming to crack product companies. But i am confused is this right or should I follow some other paths?? Can anyone help me with this🥲

My question, as a college student, which is a better thing to do? 1. Keep learning new tech stack and build different projects. Or 2. Try to contribute to some organization through open source and learn through contribution itself (assuming i have some basic knowledge) + increase my network of connections (if possible). My primary goal right now is getting decent on campus placement as of now but i have plans to try oss contribution in future even if i am unable to do rn. My 2nd year will end in a few days btw. Note that i can't do both simultaneously as my college is very hectic (tier 3) but it has some okayish placement.

What advice would you give a second semester student of a tier 3 college who is currently learning DSA in Java . I will start the web dev from the 3rd semester. (August) Any advice for me to get a good job or internship opportunity 🙂🙂

I am in my 3rd year (BE) . Unfortunately got tier-3 college. Was very ambitious regardless of the situation ,wanted to crack FAANG or any big thing. Started Learning from the first year itself while others were just enjoying . Was working very hard . Did some DSA . Did some full stack web-dev . College is super bad so relied on yt for roadmap and advice(No didi bhaiyas specifically) .There is literally sooo much to do dsa, dev , cp in just 4 year where i have to search the way out and learn while college bullshit (attendence , cgpa). Now everything seems worthless. All my efforts are all in vain. All are on the same pedestral now. No one is getting anywhere. NO INTERNSHIP ,, i could see myself getting 4-5 lpa after this grind in the end. Well in the end I have to accept the fate that I am mediocre.

Background: Tier 1 college, Branch - Civil, 2018 passout, Presently working at a state govt PSU with around 11.5 LPA CTC (salary part only, excluding medical facility which is decent) Things I like at the present job: 1. Home state posting all throughout the career 2. Easy to take leaves and can mostly go home on weekends 3. Good work life balance. Things I don't like: 1. Rural posting (as of now, will change in future) 2. Repetitive kind of work - not challenging enough and hence limited growth (I guess this is true for most PSU jobs) Why thinking of the switch? 1. Civil was never really my passion - just what I got. 2. Taking the job was mostly due to family pressure of doing govt job. 3. Liked programming during school days, did web dev work in college fests. 4. I do like the process of building something up and also learning new things, and am hence beginning to feel tech is something that would suit me. 5. Salary and fomo factors are there but not significant enough. I feel I have not been taking enough risks and hence am not being rewarded enough. I want the thrill of grinding and progressing in life. What's stopping me then? 1. Obviously, the safety and protection of a secured job is difficult to overcome. 2. Family wants me to settle now, but I don't. 3. Recessions like this where layoffs take place even for skilled people due to factors not in one's control. 4. The fact that I might have to take a paycut, to begin in this career. So what should be the path to take? 1. Learn DSA, make projects and apply. Could use my network (although very very few of my batch are in tech, most are in analytics, finance, core sector) to begin somewhere and switch 2. Go for M.Tech in tier 1, and hence aim for product based companies. I am more inclined towards option 2, as the tech job market being what it is now. I am ready to slog for 2 -3 years (mtech preparation, mtech and then placement) Please help me out with your views and suggestion.

So I have 2+ years of experience in tech field as a full stack developer for 1 year and as a back end developer for another year. Now I am at a where I need to switch. But I am not very good at DSA, I find it non interesting and a bit difficult. Can you suggest me ways to grow myself so that I can feel confident enough to switch? Also can I switch without DSA ? Jahan dekho wahan sirf DSA hi DSA and it’s frightening 😰

I'm in a cyber security degree, I've asked my seniors and came to know that the college won't teach me anything related to it. Nothing that I didn't expect. So Here's my routine, I'm learning Web-development, Just started bug bounty a little, thinking about starting flutter. I wish I could keep learning this everyday but the works from college and since I'm a day scholar, I get very little time for my own adventures. Somewhere deep within, I can sense the urge to dropout. I can surely learn by myself and learn better and faster than what they teach in college. I also want to move abroad, India isn't for me. By your experience, what do you think I should be doing differently?

I haven't change job in 17 years. I started here as a fresher and I am here still. Salary is bad but I can't blame the organization. Don't want to dwell on past (because I do it daily). I am Wintel Server Engineer for 11 years and did that is there to do. Then I was asked to do Infrastructure Management of our Network Security Devices and EDR Solutions. So my job helps the cybersecurity teams of my organization but I don't feel I am really doing cybersecurity. With this profile I do not get interviews calls. I have taken subscription of Acloudguru, tryhackme and plurasight to upskill myself . Have enrolled myself to SIEM training (arcsight and splunk) basically this training for freshers who want to get into SOC Analyst role. Now, I don't know what should I do ..I want to be in Defensive Security Operations type role but I need money soonest as well. I am thinking doing Security +, CEH and CySA certs ...studying is difficult...focusing is difficult. What should I do....please help.

Hello everyone; I need your help. I am a Computer Science student about to reach my final year in the coming two months. I heard that we will be having placements in July and the competition is fierce since there are thousands and thousands of students looking for job/internship. Till date; I have done frontend development and I am good with HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. I know theoratical portion of JavaScript and jQuery but get stuck when told to implement logic in problem solving. [I also know React.js but very basic like routing, states and props, etc. since I was not able to give much time to it] Addtionally; I also did a 3month internship in this domain and know how to get the work done but technical interview may become a problem. [I got this opportunity through referral] I will be having my End Sem exams next week and it will go on for 10-12days. After that; I will be able to give full-time to learning and will have probably 1 or 1.5 month to upskill myself. I am planning to do DSA and Full-Stack Development so can anyone guide me on how can I become capable to compete and outperform my peers? It's just that I think I have wasted my 3 years of college and have fear that I won't be placed since I am lagging so much.
