Kota happenings ..
Really sad to hear news coming for Kota .. and there are many more such cases in India .. I am not directly affected nor my extended family for now .. But I think the problem they are trying to fix is - Parents should not put to much pressure.. Whereas I think the problem is 1)Kids are not taught how to handle pressure 2) they are not given assurance that if you fail no problem we are there 3) Parents putting too much pressure by putting in all life savings or trying to fulfil they own desires Any other inputs to save lives of families being effected pls add . Unless we define the right problem - we cannot hope for solutions

Too much positive marketing of IITs and top-tier engineering colleges.
IITians do make it big in life, but the percentage of those millionaires/billionaires as compared to other batchmates is also less.
I know someone who graduated from IITD Textile Engineering, and he is struggling to find a good paying job,
Also, Why isn't the government sensitive towards it? Spring fans are not the solution
The problem is not with kota, it's our culture of "woh paper nikal lia toh yeh bada aadmi ban gaya", be it upsc/jee/neet etc. From poor un-imformed family pov it's be all or end all.
There were farm labourers earning 1lkh per YEAR still paid 1.5lkh fees to Allen, in hopes that their kid will also become bada aadmi. The coaching Mafia is ruining lives.
I did grind in a kota coaching for a year for jee perp, (year 2016) witnessed a attempted suicide on my hostel floor thankfully he survived,
It impacted me soo much i asked to move back home.
the suicide guy eventually did a non engineering graduation and does a regular job.
Kota coaching is either the bet of a lifetime for poor kids.
Or a 2yrs vacation in new city for rich kids, they don't even intend to study in IITs, the high end hostels have facilities similar to any 3* hotel.
Only positive trend is reducing number of jee exam givers.

I’ve lived in Kota for 2 years, the place makes you so thick skinned it can’t be put into words. When I was there this didn’t feel negative but now when I look back it sure is a dark place to be.
Personal experience - The place where we used to drink tea was suddenly crowded one morning. We realised that a 17 year old had taken his life and left a note that said I’m quitting mom, take care of my younger brother. But we were so used to reading and hearing about these instances that instead of empathising with the situation we were more worried about where do we drink our tea now. That is fucked up and it blows my mind that it felt normal in that situation.
Most of you overcame all this challenges and have got jobs and earning now .. maybe you can share how you faced it and got over it ..do not assume that they know it.. you don’t know what u consider “common knowledge “ will actually help someone
Why is the entrance so different from the syllabi of 11th and 12th? Whats the utility of 11th and 12th then? Entrance tests need to reflect what the students are learning in school.

I spent 5 years in Kota and there wasn't a single suicide back then. A lot of factors are at play here and the single most important one is that they're taking anyone and everyone these days. Back in the day Bansal sir used to take only a limited number of students so expectations were kind of limited. Add no reshuffling to it and weakening of test system and added parental pressure due to inflated salaries at IITs and you've the current mix of depression and anxiety culminating in suicides.

It sucks out all the joy of your life...
Children are taught to dedicate their everything towards one thing, without first teaching them how to move on from something that didn't go their way.
