[Thread] Has anyone wondered how things got popular in the pre-Internet era? ✅
Think Tippy Tippy Tap or the Superman S, how is it that all of us remember them? Was just discussing with my SO, about how somethings during our school days were really popular but there was no Internet to purport virality. Even FLAMES or Truth/Dare. Like there has to be a genesis of these trends right? I can already imagine some kid coming up with ideas like this and they caught on so hard, that word of mouth travelled far and wide. Especially, something like Truth/Dare or Superman S, most kids in India know about it and it is a common cultural thing across the globe as well. What do you think? Does anything else come in mind?
Word of mouth plus those schedules in news paper. I used to check the timings of Cartoon Network shoes in The hindu paper and tell my friends if there is any change.

Also used to meet friends from different schools during cricket match they used to share what’s trending in their clan

Even food, if i find some good stuff at one shop i used to tell my friends and go along with them to buy again
Just like the food reels now a days obviously its herd mentality by influencers on social media
TV, newspapers, magazines and phones existed bruh💀 and people used to talk to each other

Amazing how when sharing wasn't very convenient, lasting things were created.
I'd say People still migrated/immigrated to other neighbourhoods, cities and countries.
There were advertisements and TV shows that promoted jingles/dance and music. Kids' books and magazines had things we all aspired to (Enid Blyton style backyard picnics)
And I guess some things just develop along similar lines in different cultures: basic stick and ball games played around the world and in many parts of India by children are very similar to professional hockey.

Lasting things are created when the flow of dissemination withstands virality. Rather, follows a long term mimesis.
