Is PM job market cold?
Hardly getting any calls for PM roles. Is the market really cold? Or AI rejections are taking over potential interview callbacks?? I see a 10/10 match with my profile for a JD but eventually get rejection mail even for screening/shortlisting, I suspect AI rejection is taking over. Appreciate Any thoughts and tips in such frustrating times.
Not just about AI. People would rather have more coders and designers in a hierarchy and making them coordinate directly tbh. That's what I'm doing too in my startup and it makes sense to me as a founder handling product, marketing and branding.
Don't need PMs to build products or ship features, that's the harsh reality. PM's are only required beyond a certain scale, which also means you're losing out on other opportunities that may not have products at huge scale but still might be very profitable and healthy businesses, such as b2b companies that only go for a select few high value clients per year.
That is a little concerning, did not expect this 🙂.
But if a techie is doing coordinating cross functional stakeholders without business acumen and product sense in competitive product industry..I don't see him/her making justice to their core skill and over time as an Org you'll be hunting for "exceptional" talent and incurring high costs.
I understand the narrative these days is what great value is PM bringing... But very few know the difference between building the Right Product versus building the Product Right.
@RayMondReddington you're still thinking from a large scale perspective. Plenty of heathy and profitable business can make do with limited business acumen and product sense. There's going to be mistakes on the way anyways, might as well make them faster and learn on the way than hire an external resource to make them for us.
There are good roles available and companies are hiring . But there are too many candidates in the market with really good profiles and hiring is through referrals .
Good PMs get filtered out by market and opportunities are chasing them
