Current salary disclosure to US based startup
I make $50k USD in my current job and I am interviewing for a role in a US based startup. Their salary range for the role is mentioned to be $80-120k. My ideal target is $100k with them. Shall I inflate my current salary to let's say $75k in the hope of an easier negotiation to $100k? Can they do a background salary check in India? They are a tiny team of <10 folks. The above thought is obviously under the assumption that they can't verify my salary in India and/or would not be bothered about it. Is my assumption correct? And if yes then is my approach correct?
Why do you even want to tell them your previous salary? Don't mention it until the last round. Once they are convinced they are ready to hire you, negotiate your salary based on your performance. Then if they ask previous salary, share pay slip. That's all!

Okay so IF they ask me my salary in the first round - then I can say that I'll be happy to disclose that later? Is that acceptable in US?
You say you aren't comfortable Sharing your salary at this point of time.

Am also working for a US based startup thdy didnt ask me for my previous salary.
And they did the background check after 3 months of my joining. That too just for name sake via a 3rd party. That 3rd party asked my payslips.
My suggestion is they might not ask for ur salary if they ask also you can skip it politely.
unrelated question - How did u get an interview at that new startup?

If not today the chances are that they will find out sooner than later. Its better to be transparent. If they have the budget, then I dont think it will be a question of your previous salary
