Product Analyst for 18LPA

I’m a product analyst with 2.5 YOE making 13.5LPA at startup.

I have been offered 18 + 2 LPA at a conglomerate for product analyst role.

Pros:

  1. New Tools to work with
  2. Hybrid Model
  3. Good WLB
  4. No Volatility

Cons

  1. Product Analyst Role again (I wanted to get into senior level roles)

Do you think I should wait it out and play the long game? or take the offer and chill.

They were layoffs at my current firm and they are acting very stringent about timings, travelling in Bangalore traffic is a big dealbreaker in itself, but there’s an appraisal cycle coming (with no hopes of a solid appraisal but I might get promoted and I also like the work and team at current firm)

  1. You are underpaid in your current role
  2. Shifting without a promotion doesn’t look good on resume. First thought anyone will have looking this is change is that you ran away from something in your last company (mostly unable to handle work)
  3. How are you concluding there is no volatility? Joining a new company and building your expertise/ credibility will give you enough volatility in life for a few months
  4. 2.5 yrs as PA; next shift/role you pick should be apm or pm. Nothing lower
  5. Giving a lot of interviews to prepare for industry pov is an old school myth. If you are doing justice to your role right now then you are prepared enough for any industry
  6. With you exp, take an apm shift (or pm shift if you can land it). And do not settle for anything below 25lpa fixed (negotiate on market standards not your current compensation)

Some product analysts want to be analysts and do better at analytics, why move to apm/pm, that's not everyone's roadmap

Dear friend,

I, personally, hate this behavior. If you started looking for a job change, then the prospect of staying at current org is meaningless.

If you have made up a mind then staying is not an option. If you are happy at current org then keep giving interviews is not good especially for your mental health. Constantly comparing current org to other companies which leads to this dilemma. Am i being paid well? Can I get more? Will I get promoted? Work culture there is good?

Having said that, always know your self worth and don't let anyone exploit you. Love your work/profession but your company.

You are with an offer and a good offer. Ask yourself a simple question, why did you start looking for a change - if that criteria is met then go for it.

Prioritisation is a criteria not just for sprint planning. See - P0s must be met, P1s are important but can be traded for, and P2s are good to have.

And whenever someone ask this question with pros and cons. The fact is that you have already made your mind - you just want someone else to give you a green flag.

So whatever is in your head is the right decision

Different opinion on the interview part, I think it prepares you for what is expected from the industry POV.

but the P0, P1, P2 categorisation makes sense. Moving into PM roles was the biggest priority, I guess I’m just going to stick to the path that will support the career aspiration ie by continuing to work at my current firm.

Why do you need to give interviews to prepare from industry POV?

You are over paid

that doesn’t sound like a bad thing but I know people who make 40-60LPA at companies like Atlassian
