How do you deal with your moral compass?

You can mention current/ex company. Or don't mention. Just say the scam. Let the common things be known.

Lately, I’ve been at a bit of a weird place at work. I’ve been working at a startup for the last 1 year. This is my first startup experience. It had been a pretty good experience thus far, as I’ve started doing well, the trust on me has increased, and the kind of asks have become weird. I’ve increasingly started doing founders office work, which includes helping with the MIS, build projections. As I’ve started working on this, what I’m realizing that a lot of it is hogwash. A lot of the transaction that is reported is not meaningful. Additionally, we are reporting unachievable projections, even though it is evident it won’t work out. It’s kinda on the fence, and I don’t feel like doing it. But then again, this might just be how most startups work. Have you guys faced this? If yes, what would you do in my position?

A faded memory dawned on me early this morning while commuting to work, as I saw few kids leaving for school. A few years back, I was teaching underprivileged children in a distant government school as a part of a social initiative. We asked kids, What do you want to become when you grow up?” I really felt humbled and privileged when the kids responded with Policeman, Driver, Mechanic, Patwari(govt official who keeps record of lands) etc. We even remarked that whether they would prefer to be a pilot. And they responded with No. Perhaps, it was representative of things that they knew could achieve and things they could not. It may even have been that their initial choices were likely due to positions of power that they had witnessed and wanted to emulate. Probably, they were not exposed to various options that exist out there. As my cab whirred away, I was left with a deep sense of gratitude upon recollection of those memories. I really hope those kids achieve whatever they set their sights at.

Being self-aware, I understand how privileged I am. In spite of whatever is happening in the startup ecosystem, most of us are extremely privileged. WFH when it rains or when you are not in the mood to come to the office. Salary comes on time Have AC homes and offices Delivery apps like Zomato, Amazon, Big Basket to get so much work done. I feel extreme levels of guilt when I see blue collar folks slog themselves throughout a day to get meagre pays. Sure, their work is not intellectually challenging but extremely physically challenging. The kind of physical activity that they have to do irrespective of what weather it is just pains my heart. I know that this divide has been there for centuries and will remain in the future too. I try to help them wherever I can. This is a problem that for sure cannot solve for everyone ever. Want to understand how I can overcome this guilt that I have?

Hey folks! I work in analytics, it's been about 5 years working I had a very good learning time at Zomato, learnt a lot of things and then moved to an early stage startup I'm kind of feeling very dissatisfied at work, this time I have a really good idea worth working. I joined a new company and have built a lot of things ground up here, but am i being too hasty in leaving my job? Should I be prepared to be jobless for a long time if I ever consider corporate again? Because after my first job, i have mostly just worked for a year at every company. And along with my notice period it will be 2 months at my current organisation

I work at a small startup that was acquired by a large corporate, primarily via high level contacts of the founders rather than technical due diligence. Founders and employees cash out big FAANG-level payslips without bothering about any actual work or revenue. Being in my late 20s, I believe that our energetic youth should be spent on doing something that we are proud of, when we look back on our younger days. Imagine yourself in your 60s, and your grandchildren look up to and ask you about your life. I would definitely get depressed if I had to tell them that I did nothing of significance, just collected my salary. In this context, I have been telling a few of my close colleagues how we can learn specific tech stacks which are in demand, in interesting domains that we can shift to, if applying to other companies. However, recently I came to know that some of these colleagues have shared screenshots of my conversations with management and claimed that I am violating company policy by apparently encouraging people to apply elsewhere. Didn't see it playing out like this, so it's a shocker for me. Going forward, what would you suggest? Keep my mouth shut and be company policy-wise correct with people to avoid such backstabbers? Or should I continue to be honest and just change company myself?

So our company is going for campus placements and people from my alma mater have been reaching out to me on Linkedin asking about the work culture and review in general. Personally, I wouldn't advise someone to join the company. I want to let them know about the actual scenario (which is bad) but also I don't want it written for obvious reasons. I don't know them personally, so, can't call them and say. How to handle this moral dilemma?

I joined a startup in 2021 with a 6 LPA package. After about a year I learnt that one of my colleague, who had joined 3 month before me, and who's from the same batch (2021) as mine is being paid 12 LPA for the same role, even though I'm much better than him in terms of programming knowledge and development skills. Learning that killed all the motivation I had to work and now I feel cheated and deceived. How should I deal with this situation ?

A famous food delivery start up in Bengaluru lost its best CTO and someone like local politician SvP made it to the top. Many of us not feeling ok to work due to political nature and way the review meetings conducted. Favouring some group and condemning other group to the core. What would you do?
