Worst things about IAS preparation?
Wastage of the most energetic years of one's life, if you strech it unnecessarily. Aspirants should definitely try but for how long? When and where do you stop? Why are people after 32 not allowed? They might not rank to higher positions in bureaucracy but they will have more real world experience and some expertise in certain domains that can help. Your thoughts?

You are talking opposite things in same line. Wasting energetic years of one’s life vs putting an age limit.
Now imagine what if 32 age limit is not there , the pool just got infinite and your chances of selection will be lower.
So benefit on putting an age limit is two fold getting younger workforce in to govt , also there is cap to ppl to not try like infinite times
Talking about wasting energetic years of one’s life , I don’t see it as a waste it is one’s choice to prepare and get in to the services. There is no compulsion here. Too each there own. It’s a good thing ppl try hard things it may seem waste at the moment but will be enriched and cherished long term
Personally I feel if you are preparing from college etc 2 years is good time gauge where you stand and take an extra 1 more additional chance with the job etc. If you are newbie 3 would be good.
My thoughts on this exam , it should be limited to 4 chances for all unless educated in govt schools like say 6 years out of 10 (not including college) irrespective of caste, they should be given more chances say 6. Age limit for both should be 28. No more extensions.
If one really wants to do service there are many ways! Cheers

Ya i missed that point, number of attempts should be fixed, age limit should not be.
Although I'm general male, I dont want to get in that whole debate of caste and gender reservations.
But i disagree that in a serious business like running government age should not matter. People who see more of life can have better perspective than a 22-23 year old.
My only point is that if someone in their 33rd year of age feels that they can sit for an exam and interview to become an IAS, chance should be given.
Preparing for an exam is real world experience?
Not everything is for everyone, it’s a good signal for people to pivot.

I was talking about people who might have taken jobs right after college but at a later point of time think that they should try for civil services.
If it’s pvt sector experience, maybe skill sets are different. Modi govt tried experimenting with bringing SMEs/professionals to lead relevant govt departments but the ‘powerful’ lobby destroyed the plans. Unless until govt tries again and bring reforms to public service appointments, I don’t think things will change.
