How to switch from support project to development project?

Hi, 24M working in one of the WITCH having 1.3 years of experience total. I've graduated from Tier-3 engineering college in 2021. Last year joined through off campus. I have worked on two short term projects, one is Migration and done basic scripting as development experience there, In second one done manual testing work. In March this year, my second project got completed and I got release from project. I was on bench for few days after that I got a support project which initially i thought I can do some enhancement work here, but utter disappointment this project is, 97% tickets here are Access requests and maximum work of 2 hrs daily. I don nothing apart from mailing clients n shiet and sometimes call with clients. I got frustrated because of this. Now, If I ask for release from this project now, will they accept it? Or will it impact my year end rating, I'm getting afraid now. Please help me what should I do.

I’m currently working in a support project and whatever I heard from my seniors and fellow guys at work is that nobody stays with this client and company for more than a year or two. I joined here as a fresher with some really good dev skills but the work and tech here is not allowing me to put them to use. I’m feeling like quitting from here, but again need to brush up my skills as I did not put them to use over a period of 14 months. Also there is a lot of micromanagement going on and I’m not comfortable with that. No one takes ownership of work and tries to push it to you and make you work on it.

Hello community, This post is for getting guidance/opinion on the role switch from support role to development role. I really need help from fellow colleagues and exp professionals to proceed further. So, I had 2.5 years of experience in SAP domain and recently I have switched internally (within the org) to the software engineering team that has complete back end work to do for a foreign client. Tech-stack is Java 17, Eclipse Jersey, MySQL, MongoDB, Azure Cloud and some other technologies too. Parallelly I have been a part of an online platform for software engineering courses (eg. Bosscoder etc), where I learnt DSA, spring boot, HTML, CSS and JavaScript with React framework. The front end engg. part is not covered yet, but a part of the curriculum. Now my doubt is, I am planning to work for some months here and in my resume, stretch the starting time of the SWE role, to shadow down the SAP experience. Like 4-5 months experience shown as a year or so. Tell me if it can be a good strategy to reduce barriers of not having experience to join SDE roles in prod-based MNCs. (I know, that I will have to showcase deserving skills, based on experience, in the next company to get an offer, but still!) Secondly, can the backend framework (Jersey) become a barrier to the job switch to java spring boot roles. Some people told me that experience matters and not the frameworks. I need ur opinions. Lastly, I am recruited as a Senior software engineer, I will have to prove my worth not just to other companies, but internally within the team. How can I learn more in less time, to equalise the skills with the job role, not 100% but even 60-70% would work. Where to start, what to take care?!

Hey What's the responsibility in a support role? What's the learning growth in it? After support project is it possible to change to dev role?

Long version:- So i joined my current company as fresher Had basic knowledge of java then was trained on java spring boot Microservices devlopment. Then put on bench for about 4 month(i actually wasted that time).Now got a project I do automation using python and selenium.I don't like doing it . So now I want to switch to development. Confused should i learn Django, Node js or should stick with java spring only. I am more inclined towards django as now i write automation script in python. And i personally feel it to be better then java (maybe cause it is easier to write).But i don't know market trends. That's why guidance needed.Thanks in advance

Hi All, Hope you are all doing well. I'm stuck in support role, handling incident tickets & publishing status reports since 1.5 years. My learning is almost null. I'm currently doing java DSA (350) & picking up on springboot tutorials. Given the support job role, 90 days np, & current market, how difficult is it to land a backend developer role. (Happy to take paycut). Or should I just quit my current role & enroll for some placement bootcamps. What can I do better to improve myself. Thanks in advance. Tc: 7.65 Yoe: 2 LC count: 350
