How were your early days?

I have just graduated and joined a fintech firm in their product team(it's been 2 months) Was just curious as to understand about how were your early days in product and how did you navigate your way up? Till now, it has been more about understanding and managing data for me, is that normal? (Though I understand it's essential however still) I wish to be part of the strategic side more as opposed to only data I understand data is the thing for product, however still building stuff gives a greater sense of ownership and responsibility. Looking for some genuine guidance and wisdom. Thank you!

Need advise

Hey folks, So I work as a product intern and have an offer to join full time as an Associate Product Manager at a Fintech B2B startup upon graduating. So cutting to the chase, Recently I have been under tremendous pressure to deliver a product. Our organisation does not have any senior product manager to help guide and I report directly to the CEO. I have been given far too much responsibility and an extremely sophisticated product has been put in my care. This product requires a lot of technical expertise and we do not have that kind of resources. I have put this point across to my boss multiple times over the past few months and he always says we will do it. He goes and promises clients that this product exists they even did a soft launch of this product when we literally have not built more than a few screens. Our company has a high employee turnover and people keep quitting left right and centre due to the Co-founders toxic attitude. Recently I have been feeling very anxious starting work in the mornings. Most days go late into the nights because the Co founders work in a different time zone. So the dilemma here is this, I feel the urge to quit this job but at the same time I am afraid that another opportunity will not present itself soon. They also pay me pretty well compared to other product intern roles out there. I know a lot of people are out there fighting for a product intern or an APM role and here I have it and am considering quitting. Please feel free to ask me any follow up questions and forgive me if it sounded more like a rant. I am open to hearing your advise. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Others

Looking for answers and guidance on my career.

Hi, I'm currently working as a Product Analyst at a promising startup, where I've been working on enhancing product delivery processes, keeping a check on deadlines (part of PMO), and driving client adoption for the past 1.5 years. Here my primary responsibilities involve conducting data analysis of projects and tickets, identifying trends and patterns, and providing insights to inform product decisions. However, I'm not directly involved in the core decision-making processes that shape product strategy. This is my first job and I feel there will be nothing specific that I will own in project management and/or process excellence, there is nothing much to grow in this field, and pretty much anybody can replace this task, *please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm particularly fascinated by the prospect of building solutions that will directly impact our clients hence the real world, developing innovative product strategies, and bringing impact to the business. I have some questions and seeking guidance. Insights, personal experiences, or any guidance will help me a lot. Thanks in advance. - Should I consider pursuing a product management role? - Or should I step toward product strategy? - If I need to get into product strategy, how can I do that? is an MBA a must for this kind of role? - Or are there other avenues that might be more suitable for my current skillset and experience?

On break

Being a basic PM

In a world full of competition, where surving has turned out to be a struggle for the basic, I've often found myself reflecting on my own journey. Coming from a modest background, raised by misogynistic parents who never taught self reliance or drive to pursue a career, I grew up in a small town and attended an average college. My class, lacked ambition due to limited opportunities known. Unlike Tier 1! I was always curious person eager to know things and with no mentors to shape me at the right times in my life I faced the world alone. I took up various jobs, uncertain of my path, until fate led me to a product management role in a startup in the southern part of India. Suddenly, life became full of promise. For 3 years, I dedicated myself in a fast paced environment building products, understanding users, and empathizing with their pain points. It was the first time I felt content and fulfilled in something I was doing with life; something I knew how to reach. Sadly, the toxic environment in that company forced me to leave, and I ended up joining a larger company for the sake of financial stability during the challenging times of the Covid pandemic. But something was missing—I lacked the drive and speed work once had. So, I made the bold decision to quit and take a break, yearning to return to building remarkable products and feeling whole again💙 My story may not be extraordinary, but it raises questions about the biased and unfair nature of hiring practices that fail to consider the unique journeys and circumstances of individuals. Opportunities are often granted to the privileged, allowing them and their descendants to progress at a faster pace, while those who are underserved are left behind in a generational race. If you are hiring, always remember people are much more than the one pager resume or numbers in it. Give chance and take bets on people no matter. It might just be one other hire for you, but it changes many lives! #JobHuntIsTiring #BeKind
