Side Effects of working at startups

Been working with a pre series A level startup for about 3 years being my first job. Paid about 20-25lpa for a full stack role. Engineering + product team is still single digit strength as we are not pureplay tech company. Had a great learning because of a good manager and 0-1 kind of work we did but I am starting to feel stagnated because of following reasons 1. We don't have anything like SDE1, 2 etc because there are very few devs. 1 manager and everyone else is an SDE. The company doesn't intend to hire more for at least an year.. so i won't see any title level promotion or any role that feels senior despite being around for a while 2. Salary. Want to know if I am behind the standard pay because i belong to tier 1.5ish college. Big tech seems to pay more for 3yrs workex as usually people become sde2 by then

I am a software engineer with 3 years of experience .For the first two initial years I was working as a QA in one of the good product companies with a very sorted work life balance . I had recently switched to a BE role in a startup I am very much lagging behind here because of my QA background ,the people here are very much talented and are great problem solvers .How do I reach that level ? I have been struggling to keep up with the pace here and finding it difficult to approach the tasks,even though i have been giving so much of time to work . And the TL in my team have a certain amount of expectations and hence they don't help according to that .(which i feel is fair) How should I approach this and level up here Anyone with a similar background and story please share your experience :) Any advice would really help

I am 3 years into my career and I have deep passion for Software engineering. I genuinely like it. I want to become a better engineer by going deep. But since the time of my internships in college, I have always been fascinated by startups and want to have one of my own. Now I have an idea(again very passionate about) and I’m working on it but my dilemma is that if I run a startup, it’s going to take me away from my other interest of engineering. Any thoughts?

Currently working in a startup and contributing in data science projects. Learning is good but a lot of time goes down in meetings and discussions and I have to do late night work. Everyday starts to feel like the same and I am not able to get time for extra learning to enhance my knowledge and tech stack. Also thinking of company change but most of them need 3-4 years exp to the data science team. 😭

I've 3 yoe, currently working in a very small startup as full-stack dev. Company's revenue is declining from Q4 last year. Every month layoffs are happening in each team. Last week, a dev was laid off from my team. No hike till now, working here from last 1.5 years. Although, got performance bonus twice. I want to work on a few ideas, tried to work on weekends but it led to burn out and started affecting my health, suffered from mental fatigue. Please suggest.

I have a remote job with 250k USD/2CR base salary and get to travel for free internationally 6 times a year to beautiful places in Europe. My manager is a saint and I don’t think I will ever find someone as good as him. I am considering leaving this job to startup. I would love to hear everyone’s unfiltered thoughts on this please 🙏🏼 Firstly, this is not a fake post - Luckily I have been one of the few people who were early in AI to train very large LMs, so I have an edge and get paid crazy money for it. Why am I leaving? Over the last one month I had time off from work to build a new AI capability for coding assistants. It’s a technological breakthrough and my AI is 10X cheaper and has 100% codebase coverage for automatic feature development, bug fixing and automating 3rd party integrations into your very large codebases. Others are working on it as well, but I have achieved higher results on public coding assistants benchmarks(SWE-bench). I believe in this breakthrough and technology, and this is the absolute right time to build it, not 6 months ago, not 6 months later - too early and too late. This could potentially be my next moonshot or I could also fail, but learn a lot in the process and not have regrets 5 years down the line in not pursuing a breakthrough in AI that someone down the line is going to monopolise. My financial situation is good and bad - I have NW of 3.2 Cr, but they are tied in 2 real estate properties - I am aware that this is stupid to not have anything liquid. I have a running home loan of 1Cr to the bank and 30 lakhs to be paid to my Dad, these two are my biggest mental blockers. My wife(married early this year) earns really well as well and I have some ~20L liquid, so day to day runway is of easily 1 year. Finally, I don’t believe that it I leave my current job, I will ever get another international offer that pays this well in cash and has remote work given how to market has changed recently. I am trying to disassociate from a greed mindset and looking into a potentially very high exponential growth/learnings. After 5 years of working as a SAP functional consultant, it sometimes feels as if we are lacking behind in terms of compensation as compared to newer technologies like data analytics, data engineering, etc. Is it worth switching to such emerging technologies like analytics, big data etc after working in SAP for 5 years?

Hello folks! I come with 4 years of work experience out of which I worked in very small but great agencies for 2 years. In the past 2 years, I’ve been on the growth generalist side but I’ve taken up some great amount of responsibilities. - I’ve driven user adoption for a feature from 0 to 1 million - I’ve worked with giants like Disney on their product strategy - I’ve handled budgets of $1 million for a year long campaign and successfully reached the target metrics - I’ve also closely worked with the leadership on several new initiatives, acting as a program manager I come from a non-tech undergrad background but honestly, I’ve worked on entire product cycle ranging from finding the right solution for different features, identifying third party providers to creating user flows and wireframes. I’m on the lookout for a new opportunity, already quit my job. Work has gotten rather crazy with so much time out but considerable change in leadership affecting me negatively, having to build credibility every time. I’ve had my manager change 4 times in a year. If you know any startups that would be happy to have me, I’d love an intro. Thank you!

I am planning to shut down my IT services company after 5 years of operations. The journey has been bitter-sweet but it is becoming unsustainable and putting me under a great amount of duress. I have been a trained ML engineer but since my startup have gone on to taking up mostly non-programming roles/ work. I have tried getting back to development role but have not been able to get back in the same stride as I used to. Lately, I’ve been picking up some consulting work as a Software Architect. Basis, that info, need some advice on how I can plan my professional journey ahead.
