Why are Techies so delusional?
There has been a huge influx of posts dissing roles like Product, Marketing, HR etc. by Techies. Every other post, or comment is made by them undermining the value of other depts and these cuties think business runs just by their sub-par code. I understand that their delusion stems from the fact they get paid huge salaries by loss making companies. Which is bound to crash sooner or later. Rant over.

As a senior software engineer I agree with this post 100%
Software devs are some of the most business ignorant people I have worked with and I have worked exclusively only in Product based companies (One unicorn)
The pig headedness of these people and the self importance they give to their 'ideas' without understanding it contributes to business or not is mind-boggling.
Engineers need to come to realisation that we are here to support business run smoothly. WE don't run the business.
Sadly I don't see it happening for a long time

1. I have not seen any post belittling business here. PMs are shyt that's why they get shit. You are either seeing ghosts or just another sore PM who got his holes drilled badly
2. Business is bread and butter of Analytics and Data Science teams. We drive business and in several orgs we are part of engineering. Your assumption is pretty dumb.

Interesting POV.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb mentions an interesting advice. If you don’t know what to do, follow what the smartest people in your generation are doing.
These are almost exclusively fulfilling and financially attractive opportunities
According to him, in the 1990s Lebanon, the smartest kids in undergrad went and became Economists. In the 2010s, the smartest kids became Software Engineers.
Perhaps, their ego does not stem from the money but from competence.
However, true charisma is merging that competence with warmth. And for that, you must eliminate the ego.

The point here is that the engineers feel only they are competent and rest are deadweight fools. It’s shocking TBH because this reeks of delusion and lack of real world knowledge.

Mediocre people also feel attacked from mediocre people.
People who are good at what they do (regardless of what role they are in) don’t care what people say about their role/job. They just build in silence and are ultimately are the ones who end up making a difference, while mediocre people keep squabbling.

Don't take it to heart. Most rants here are purely out of frustration and being underpaid. If you are truly good at building and marketing yourself, you will always do well and be paid accordingly, whatever anonymous keyboard warriors may say.
There is a divide even b/w "techies". A Dev Rel is considered inferior to an engineer. A Frontend Developer or QA Engineer is considered inferior to a Backend or Fullstack Dev. Guy working at TCS/Infosys is considered a beta Developer and folks at MAANG gigachads/queens. A Systems Engineer or Platform Engineer is regarded as truly gifted(which they are IMHO).
So don't fret upon it. It's bare human nature to feel superior to others. Respect every line of work and be humble. I'm socially awkward and can't even fathom how marketing folks come with such dope ideas.
Truly gifted are those who lack business sense, lack understanding in user behaviour, lack social skills, and yet get paid hefty paychecks than anyone else in the organisation.

The only thing that matters is “business”, and techies should realise during desperate times it can be done over an excel sheet as well , or the bunch of no code tools available . So please get off that high horse , learn some basic skills like talking to someone , understanding what your business goals are , how not to be a jerk. Comprehend this , the company does not exists so that you can code and recode and optimise shit , you are the last piece of puzzle in a very complex system and not the whole system itself.

The most delusional of the engineering bunch have joined this app which is a pity. They really think code is ever sells and makes a company. Which just proves that Engineering institutions should start adding a few business courses to the curriculum to really educate folks properly. Anyone can code, anyone can sell. A company is made only when all functions work in harmony and these guys just don’t get it. I also don’t understand why these devs give shit to PMs. I don’t see them go out and do market research, track usage, figure out trends, make a product backlog and do further study.
I mean come on they are just salty af at this point. I can’t even with them. Highlights of my day have always been blasting a dev as a program manager cuz they are delusional and fuck up somewhere which messes up the whole damn project and the overall program. Now ofc they don’t get the blastings from clients and senior management cuz these guys are kept in a bubble. If only they knew what goes into building and delivering a feature other than just coding.

It's because the people holding other designations especially managers hold disdain towards engineers.
They treat them as disposables and don't respect their suggestions or ideas.
Just hold a conversation with them (managers, sales etc. ) as well you'll get your answer as to why engineers feel like this about other roles.
Very much true. Developer and qa are there slaves in a way. Utter disregard for estimation given by Dev qa. PM and PO exploit deva and qa for this.
Based opinion. Been seeing this trend on Twitter as well. Tech dorks ignoring the value of other depts and shitting on them. God complexity making them think that it's their code that drives the revenue, customers & their salaries.

Also I’m not a techie but yes I do agree they tend to get delusional and act holier than thou at least a few of em.
can attest to this as someone who has been training techies and mentoring cross-functional non-tech roles like bd and mktg.
poor fellows think everything revolves around code. does not even appreciate other tech roles like qa, design, and documentation.
screams of inexperience mixed with false bravado that tech solves everything.

In a world where people talk and interact more with computers rather than real people the ones that control the code behind these computers will feel superior. Add to it that they're made to feel superior while long work hours and alone time just end up making them disconnected and lonely which makes some cynical.
One routine thing I've seen is tech co-founders somehow are convinced that writers are a lower level of person than coders. It's kinda sad.
And I don't blame them entirely for it. Some of the work is actually pretty complex and creative but very few step back and question where their value comes from.
In the end most of them just don't like facing the truth that they're just helping build and amplify the three great machines of our world, the consumption engine, debt extraction tools and the war machine.
alphas shit on everyone else - that’s law of nature. natural selection works well in the wild to identity true alpha - out here, everyone feels they are important and others don’t do shit. sadly, it’s a bit too complex, so let the software bashing continue in this thread (in response to them bashing people at other places?)

Frankly hr is useless. But agree with the whole rant more or less. One thing could be that there are a lot of techies here so that’s the overwhelming majority that keeps interacting and conversation going.
