I mostly worked on analytics, AB testing, recommendation systems, bit of NLP, deep learning but most of the time I have implemented tree based models as part of the work

Predominantly NLP. Very few XGB. But done it and pushed several of both into Production! To be fair, I will tell you, Analytics is 2-3x harder than NLP..... Now am in a semi startup I have to wear multiple hats. So analytics is big part of my work. And mannn it's not so simple anymore😄

I’d agree analytics is bit more ambiguous, usually open ended analysis, good business intuition helps. I’d find NLP field is hard to keep up with so many developments, so many papers to read if working on core research teams, certainly have good future with large language models gaining traction

Aree not really. Just use 3 hour of a Friday when u don't have a date to read up a new release... But analytics especially dwelling into the ambiguity, it calls for massive discipline in analysis. I often forget the rules of not getting stuck on an idea and derailing the task of producing an analysis for discussion. You have to know how to utilise your time judiciously in analytics. I mean it's required every where but in Analytics it gets even more pressing

Upskilling/Prep for interviews

After another round of layoffs at my company, I am realising I would like to be prepared with my skills in case I am booted out at any time and also to apply to companies and see if I get a good role somewhere else. Right now, I work as a data analyst, yes but there is not a lot of tech skills required for my role. I use SQL and Excel and the rest of the analysis is done pretty much in a business context. It is more of a strategy role with data analysis support. My current role also requires me to take up certain projects which require DS but such projects have not come up as they were not required for the business. I want to prepare for a DS/DA role tailored with strategy. I need some guidance on what I should start with and if you guys will be kind to also direct me to good sources to prepare stuff from. Looking forward to interacting!

Current CTC is 25lpa. 6yrs of experience started as data analyst then as business Analyst. Have been working as machine learning engg for past 2 years in series c funded product based company. My work is mostly related to model scaling, maintainability and reproducibility. Do you think, is lower, on par or more than market rate. (Also if anyone is hiring, I can share more details)

I am unemployed since 1 year,did not do anything for 1 year coz of some reason , earlier I was in QA but now want to get into development. Already 1 year is gone which is big enough career gap and I am panicking. Now I am not able to understand whether I should join any software development course like Crio or shall I join any Data science/ML course. Whatever I have to do it will take 6 months more , but I guess I have no choice. I know basic nodejs and all but no knowledge of Data science however DS will be more in demand in future so that is why I am thinking about that. But I am not sure which one shall I take ? I just wanted to know from folks that can anyone learn Data science in 6 months good enough to get a job or shall I opt for software development course. Also , if I shall go for data science course , please suggest me some good training institute for it.

How to transition from DS to SWE

I am a data scientist with 4.5 years of experience and want to transition to software engineering. In DS, we do not code the ways its done in SW roles. Moreover, I am not from CS background. How do I get started on preparing to get into tier 1 companies as SWE / SDE if I want to achieve this in the next 1/1.5 years?
