Sports culture in India

India’s Olympic medal tally is such a shame.

I have seen almost every event this olympics live or through highlights. Heck I saw even the qualifiers for all our athletes. What happened truly bums me out. The several 4th place finishes. What happened with Vinesh Phogat. And then Neeraj being unable to win gold (we should not expect a gold from someone twice, he is already a legend). But the heart wants more (yeh dil maange more). A) I don't want to say it's our athletes. Suddenly everyone is spreading that narrative, that they don't have a winning mentality. Look. One athlete may not have it. But several? This is their fucking lives. If you were in their position, would you not try your hardest? So aren't they trying their hardest? B) I don't nearly know enough to blame it on our government or our facilities. Sure, they would suck. But it hurts to see Pakistan and North Korea above us. So I won't take the resources argument. C) The truth is. In a nation of 1.4 billion, we produced 0 golds. China in a similar economic condition (1990s) used to get 20-30 medals easy. It's us. All of us. Let's focus on sports. We have got to do better. I am not a parent today, I will be tomorrow. I promise to: - Encourage my kids to take up sports, and support them fully through it if they want to - Not be that society uncle who keeps the football when it goes near them We can only do our part. We came as 4th spot in medal tally in Asian games but we are not even in top 10 in Olympics in Asia. Why no player shows determination to win gold medal. Maybe reason is the mentality of players that if they win any medal they will get crores of rupees, promotions, cars, govt jobs and what not. Look at the players of other countries they do not get anything still they won gold medals. Does this show weak mentality of our players except for some. Should govt not provide these much compensation to them or what's the reason?

Many in India feel that govt is doing a lot for athletes and sports. But that is a wrong notion. Making stunning stadiums, sending air conditioners, etc is not the real deal. In fact it is done with tax payers money to fill the pockets of their corrupt nexus of shell companies who earn a lot in the name of making stadiums, sending ACs etc. Govt. has failed to create an ecosystem of any single sports like it has failed to create ecosystem for scientific research, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics etc. Whatever achievement we see in sports...comes out of wrestling ecosystem in haryana, chess ecosystem in Tamil Nadu, badminton academies of gopichand & Padukone, jsw sponsored sports academies for hockey, abhinav bindra self financed his gold, etc. Govt has not built even a single sports training infra...even if it has, it has failed and not heard of. All it does is short term investments which will make to the news. Indian govt has 0 long term investment in any field. Excellence in IT field is due to private players leveraging cheap labour and not because of IITs. India is the only large country which still shamefully buys defence equipments from other countries and cannot make its own. We as a society are too ethically and culturally inferior to other big nations and don't stand anywhere close to them. But our pride and ego is more than them.

India is currently 63rd place in 2024 Paris Olympics medal table , which is lower end of table.india despite being no.1 population, good GDP and ongoing process to become one of the super power of world why we POORLY lack in sports . Usa , china , Britain , australia, Germany , France are just leagues apart from us in Olympics, countries like new zealand, irland , Brazil and many countries very small , relatively unknown countries too have more medals than us Why is it what's the case , pls give ur thoughts about it below 👇

Despite being #1 in population, I find vaccuum in Imp Fields like - Politics - no great politician - Media - no great journalist - Music - very few great artists like A.R.R - Movies - Bollywood is struggling - Sports - Except cricket other all sports suffering - Innovation- Hardly any pathbreaking companies.. & So on… If you agree what are the reasons for this? Are we just focused on playing it safe and earning money ? Or there are no role models to follow?
