Mumbai Faces Surge in Dengue and Malaria

- The number of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya cases in Mumbai has surged over the last fortnight, according to BMC data. - Dr. Daksha Shah noted a slight rise in cases compared to August 2023, with dengue cases increasing from 999 to 1,013 and malaria cases from 1,080 to 1,171. - Senior consultant Dr. Gautam Bhansali highlighted that many dengue patients require admission due to drastically low platelet counts. - Dr. Mala Kaneria mentioned that a spurt in dengue cases during August-September is not unusual, but patients can be nursed back to health. - Chikungunya cases have seen a significant rise, from 35 in August 2023 to 164 this August, with Aedes mosquitoes being the primary culprits.
