IIT IIM lose out on exceptional talent because of their snobbishness
Change my mind
After being rejected by top Indian institutions due to his disability, Srikanth Bolla went on to study business management science from Mass...

I read the story in this article. It only states that coaching classes didn't take him. It doesn't say IITs reject him.
Regardless, such an inspirational story. I can't fathom how hard it must have been on him.

A truly inspirational story and the takeaways for OP were that IIT/IIMs are snobbish. Someone's truly hurt him in the wrong way.

Where is the snobbishness? IIT has a common entrance test. They have reservations for PwD candidates. It's a completely objective criteria. How would you like them to change it?
I think OP means that the way of selection can be changed for exceptional candidates. Like in US colleges, there's no specific rule on how much you should score in exams etc. It's simply whether the person has what it takes and whether the course helps them achieve it
And financial aid on top of it depends on how desperately the institutions want the person

Exactly. It is much more progressive and accounts for exceptional cases.
Even those against reservation argue for a case by case judgement based on the person's history/background and needs. Reservations are only a half measure, systems need to be improved upon so that we don't eventually need reservations at all, and people from all walks of life can find meaningful education and employment. Not just those who can afford coaching or perform well in an entrance exam.

Disability is just an example ser. Visible disability still gets some consideration but those with invisible disabilities (internal organs/mental health) very little still.
