"Senior" designation seems inflated
I see a lot of folks with just 1.5-2 yoe getting promoted to "Senior Software Enginner". Companies like Razorpay, Swiggy, Meesho comes in mind. What should be the industry standard for being considered to be a "Senior"?
Other day I was getting interviewed by an Engineering Manager with 6 years of experience.

Job title inflation is real! Somebody with a 'senior' or 'head' to their title doesn't get as much weight today as it was just some years ago.

Folks graduated in 2021 going around town interviewing for "Senior" roles. Companies entertaining this too!

Senior these days can be anyone from 3 to 10 years of work ex. I agree it’s becoming a joke. I’ve also seen group roles with just 6-8 years of work ex
Swiggy doesn't have Senior title as designation. It's SDE1, SDE2, SDE3, and so forth.. I'd consider a SDE3 to be a senior, SDE2 as mid level, SDE1 as junior/associate level.
I've seen some people brandishing them being SDE2 as senior...some small startups also give Senior titles, though it is useless in terms of actual job responsibilities.

I thought it went something like...
SDE1 - Junior
SDE2 - Senior
SDE3 - Tech Lead
I went from "tech lead" to "software engineer" when I changed jobs a few years ago. That's when I realized that these titles aren't worth a damn at small-midsized companies.
Currently, I have a title that somewhat matches what my role is about.
