Manager asking to switch from tech product to business product. Help required

I joined my company (tech startup) as a Product Manager and over the course of 3 years have worked both in Product as well as in Business teams. And to be honest, I like both the work. Now, I am looking for a switch and unable to decide which role I should pursue - Product or Business. So, I would need help from you all. From a long term career point of view keeping in mind compensation, scope of work and transitioning into leadership positions (CXOs), which is a better role and why - Product or Business?

Hi, I have close to 2 years experience in consulting mostly in implementation and support. I am looking forward to making a career in product management and would like to know how can someone with no product experience make this transition and land a job? Also what would be the best way to make this transition?

I am an MBA in Marketing and currently working as a Market Researcher. I want to switch to Product Management. Suggest a good online course which is not too heavy on my pockets or if I should I consider something else? I’m looking to pivot from MR as the pay I’m getting is peanuts here, extra long working hours without any compensation and too slow of growth, monetarily. Help a brother out. TIA.

I have 5+ years of total experience - 3+ years of BA (business analyst) + Sr BA experience and a year of Product Manager 2 experience. Then I started my own venture. I'm thinking about switching back to the product manager role as my firm is not working as per the expectations and product development & growth marketing is something I genuinely enjoy working on. I need some advice from you all - how can I justify my 'employment gap'? What should I tell (or rather hide) about start-up failure? What should be my approach while applying for PM openings? Where should I start? I have graduated from an IIT, how can I leverage that? I know some of these questions would sound noobish, but I really don't have much experience in switching careers. Your help is appreciated 🙂.

Hello Everyone, I am a 2018 BTech (NIT) pass out and 2022 IIM pass out with a total of 2.2 years of Workex (1.2 yrs post-MBA) and currently working as an Associate Product Manager. I am not really enjoying my role and I feel Product Management is not suitable for me because of multiple reasons some of them being, 1. I am doing issue resolutions rather than problem-solving which I love to do. 2. I am not very much interested in driving technical discussions or solving technical challenges in the process of Product Development which is the case in my current role. 3. I want to be part of a Business role where I can leverage the knowledge I have gained during my MBA and work on some problem statements related to the core businesses of the company. 4. There is no skin in the game of a PM compared to Devs, QAs, and Designers. As a PM I feel I am just delegating, prioritizing, and following up with the requirements. Most of my learnings are around managerial aspects and not business knowledge. 5. I want to be a part of business roles where I can go deeper into problems and come up with my recommendations/thoughts on them. I am looking for new roles where Strategy, Analysis and Core Business Problem solving are involved. I am really not sure what kind of roles are these. Please help me with the roles I can explore and how to approach the job search for such kinds of roles. Thanks In Advance.

Indian. I am a SDE (backend) currently. ~2 yrs exp. 16 LPA and I work 40-50 hrs a week. I like where I am, but I am not feeling the zeal for tech anymore. Probably will do a MBA down the line (thinking abroad, not sure) Looking for equal or greater pay, similar WLB, new domain. Should I switch to PM and try a hand at it? Am I aware of the reality or living in my own isolated reality?

I have 8 years of experience in sales , business development and that too in India ( so you can understand the work culture) I have closed many clients some of them are big ones in UAE and USA. I am looking to move to product management and really want to move to a stable job as I am the only earning member of my family. My current CTC is 12.5 lpa I am looking forward for guidance and any opportunities of that's can help me.

Anyone here switched from marketing to product? If so, how ow what steps are required? Also, is switch possible at senior Manager levels?

Graduated in 2021 have 2 yoe working in a b2b unicorn as sde-1, earning 20lpa fixed no esops. I made one switch last year. But now I realised I was learning more in my previous product company. Here most of the work is boring like writing repeated sql queries minor bug fixes and very little coding. Is 20lpa low as per industry standards for 2 yoe in bengaluru ?

Hey folks, So I work as a product intern and have an offer to join full time as an Associate Product Manager at a Fintech B2B startup upon graduating. So cutting to the chase, Recently I have been under tremendous pressure to deliver a product. Our organisation does not have any senior product manager to help guide and I report directly to the CEO. I have been given far too much responsibility and an extremely sophisticated product has been put in my care. This product requires a lot of technical expertise and we do not have that kind of resources. I have put this point across to my boss multiple times over the past few months and he always says we will do it. He goes and promises clients that this product exists they even did a soft launch of this product when we literally have not built more than a few screens. Our company has a high employee turnover and people keep quitting left right and centre due to the Co-founders toxic attitude. Recently I have been feeling very anxious starting work in the mornings. Most days go late into the nights because the Co founders work in a different time zone. So the dilemma here is this, I feel the urge to quit this job but at the same time I am afraid that another opportunity will not present itself soon. They also pay me pretty well compared to other product intern roles out there. I know a lot of people are out there fighting for a product intern or an APM role and here I have it and am considering quitting. Please feel free to ask me any follow up questions and forgive me if it sounded more like a rant. I am open to hearing your advise. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
