Friendships
What kind of friends do y'all have and how do they add to your life? What does one do if they have "friends" who act secretive when you ask them what they're upto (be it career or studies). Am I expecting too much, or do I deserve better friends.
Depends on the definition of friends.
If both of you have different meanings then obviously it will never feel like a good friendship, especially the one who has a deeper meaning to it

Secretive friends are generally the ones competitive and ambitious and feel that they still havent achieved what they wanted by this time frame and are worried ki dusre ki nazar lag jayegi. Also it could be that they feel you might be competition or might harm their chance of success or ridicule or judge their stage in the career or studies.

are they friends at all then? Like sure, I can decide to not take it personally and be like, "Hey, atleast when we hang out together it's fun", but it feels like I'm putting up with bare-minimum? Or as I said, my expectations are to high
You decide your benchmark. Ppl have friends who are purely for hanging out. People have friends solely to borrow stuff. People have friends whose sole purpose is networking. You do you - whatever you are comfortable with
