It is obvious that the bar for entry level jobs is going to be much higher now that most elementary tasks can be done faster using AI.

But don't let that fool you into thinking that all AI startups are going to change the world. Most are grifters and scamsters trying to fool wither you as a user or some unsuspecting VC.

Not going to lie but Ashneer was right, Mankur Marikoo ka naam saath mei mat lena, tu mujhe gaali se se but naam saath mei mat lena( because he’s the biggest scam artist after Dakshat Shrivastava)

 Just like Vauld, Marikoo turns out to be the biggest sell out of all time yet again. With Fraud Shamani and Chetan Bro-goat following him, they promoted a scam Startup Conference in Noida stating you can raise funding there, that too within 3 days.

Turns out you have to pay 💰 a boatload of cash to get into the conference. Now it turns out to be a scam when the organisers fled away with the money.

It’s a pity that people follow these charlatans who masquerade as superior beings while their true character is revealed in moments like this..

What would happen to all the AI startups that are raising massive rounds at insane valuations once OpenAI improves GPT-4 (some spicy rumours are going around) or comes up with GPT-5?

Most of these "AI" startups are just a wrapper around these existing, capable LLMs. Better versions of these LLMs would start generalising more and doing those specific functions done by these startups much better.

•⁠  ⁠One thing is clear - AI is going to take away jobs, and not just engineers.
•⁠  ⁠So many "AI & SaaS" startups are just plain OpenAI wrappers. Their teams know what can be done "faster, better,smoother" but don't know how. One company even credited them in their poster. Well, honest at least 💁‍♀️
•⁠  ⁠They let in too many nibbi/nibbas and there were queues everywhere
•⁠  ⁠People selling skin brightening creams in 2024 is still very weird to me
•⁠  There's an electric cycle startup called Booty (i'm not making this up 💁‍♀️)
•  In all, the management was very good. Food was expensive though 😢

Incoming!. Every FAANG PM is thinking about and working on integrating Gen AI into their features. 

This includes PMs and engineers who oversee 1-2 features in the entire product. And will oversell their part in it.

For promotions to job switches these guy have to shout ‘I used a lot of Gen AI to change the world’

And then to sell it on LinkedIn for getting likes.

The PMs will sound like they were just as visionary as Sam Altman who made GPT in the first place. 

And the engineers will sound like they coded GPT and will invent AGI themselves while they just integrate 2 APIs.

You’ve been warned.

This is not about the PMs. It is the PM directors or the CEOs that want AI AI AI in everything in their company.

I've been curious about whether there are any good Indian startups in the AI field that are not building "tools" like meeting summary or anything of that sort. But more like research based such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Midjourney, etc.
They could be early stage or late stage, doesn't matter. Have you guys seen any around you with potential?

A lot of noise around AI taking coding jobs, which i fear might be real. Like not completely but you get my point. So how should one upskill themselves (especially the average folks, top 1/2% will not be affected in any field imo) for the upcoming shift? Like will data analytics/science or maybe ai/ml engineering jobs be on rise ? Should be start upskilling in those fields or any other suggestions? I would really like to know it from someone who has good experience in the industry or someone with good insight. Thanks

Is AI actually doing the work or is it just an excuse to lay off people?

Here's my rationale on all of it.

There’s a lot of buzz about “AI developers” in the tech world. Headlines shout that the days of human coders are numbered—a tantalizing, but dubious claim. 

Startups like Magic.dev are raising hefty sums to create "superhuman software engineers." Their mission? To outperform and possibly replace human coders. Then there's Cognition Labs' "Devin," which raised $21M and claims to be an AI capable of doing real software engineering. These companies are cashing in on fears and ambitions.

One narrative is that tools like Devin will soon replace entry-level developers. 

Devin’s current track record shows it solves about 13.86% of issues on GitHub unassisted. While that’s leagues better than previous models, remember, a competent junior developer would do much more.

We shouldn’t be fooled by flashy headlines or orchestrated media frenzies. Devin is, for now, an advanced coding assistant, not a replacement for the nuanced, context-rich work that seasoned engineers provide.

Consider the landscape. Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot has already dominated the coding assistant niche for over two years, with 1.3 million paying subscribers. Pricing at $20/month makes it a tough act to follow, especially given the computational costs tied to maintaining high-performance AI models. 

Companies like Sourcegraph and Replit are also deeply embedded with their respective AI tools, Cody and Replit AI. The remaining space is limited, pushing new startups to make audacious claims to carve out a territory.

The startup game is about getting noticed. Cognition AI achieved near viral attention, taking a page from ChatGPT’s playbook. Their video showcases are strategic, designed to create buzz. But strong media presence doesn’t guarantee a product that delivers on lofty promises.

The seductive idea that advances in software will eliminate the need for human engineers isn't new.

In 1959, COBOL aimed to empower business people to write their own programs. Instead of reducing the need for developers, it created a demand for COBOL specialists. The cycle repeats. Each new tool or language claims to reduce the need for knowledge workers, but instead, it shifts the nature of the work, often requiring even more specialized skills.

AI, especially large language models, remains highly effective within certain constraints. They can automate routine tasks and provide coding assistance, but they are fundamentally "probability machines," making educated guesses. Hallucinations, errors, and a lack of deep contextual understanding limit their utility.

Five years from now, developer tools will undoubtedly be more powerful. But the idea that AI will fully replace human engineers is a perpetual myth. Instead, AI will continue to serve as an extension of human capability—better, smarter tools, but not standalone replacements.

In our era, it’s crucial to discern between hype and reality. Don’t get blinded by flashy demos and bold claims. Look for sustainable, incremental improvements that make you a more efficient, capable engineer.

There is a lot of buzz about AI apps but I wonder if existing startups are thinking deeply about changing business models because of AI or leveraging AI to automate/replace people in some functions?

Are your startups discussing the repercussions of AI to the business ?

There are multiple companies worldwide leading the forefront of AI, with inovative strides in GPTs, Multi Agent models, GANs etc. However, most Indian AI startups are not working on the cutting edge. Rather, most of them are building wrappers around GPT-4 for a consumer experience.

With the lack of any meaningful innovation within this space, is it unreasonable for Indian founders to raise on similar multiples as our counterparts in the west?

Because honestly? I can see a lot of "crypto-nerd" founders shilling the new oil called "AI" after their previous NFT/crypto/ICO-crap didn't float.

Everyday I open youtube/grapevine/teamblind its has keywords AI + Shocked or it will replace our jobs.

My take on why AI might not replace our jobs.

1. Running AI agents or AGI requires significant electric power. If every company starts using it in some way in the future. All the code might be exposed. What if AGI builds its own version and starts selling and shuts down its employer considering its super intelligence.

2. If people dont pay taxes. How will government run? Who will buy the products in the market? Wont people start stealing/hurting others to meet basic needs?

3. Many jobs in todays world use computers in someform. But we only talk about the software engineers. There are non tech people who use computers in their works. Those are pretty much repetitive and can be easily automated. Many are not aware about chatgpt.

On the other end people talk about alternative jobs and the safest job is farming in most of the posts.

1. Cant the rich build humanoid robots to do the same. Can't big corporates buy lands and build vertical farms and run with robots.

2. What big corporates are going to do with the excess money laying us off in the end if all the jobs are taken, as if the people running or owning them are going to live their life eternally. Unless they find a way to upload their existence into a robot.

3. I'm not sure if people posting about AI taking jobs have worked on atleast building basic ML models like linear regression or used MNIST data to detect numbers using neural networks. For most of us AI is a blackbox and we 
do not know about its full potential.

My take on AI
1. AI can aid humans in their tasks or make developers like us to wear multiple hats. Like combination of backend, frontend, mobile, devops, machine learning, cybersecurity. Helpnus better debug.

2. I feel like all these CxO's just blabber to get high funding, spread fear while they chill in their yatch.
