How did you make the switch from recruitment to software engineering
and why
I made the reverse - software to recruitment. Never found much joy in coding, was only okay in it (was in legacy stack so could never Google) but good in other aspects of it (understanding, explaining). Stuck to domain and switch happened by luck when I tried my hand in other aspects of HR and eventually recruiting. Pays best as IC in HR unless you’re from top HR schools recruited from campus (which I did too from a top school).
I like the freedom of approach and how good I am at this now. But eventually hiring managers are overlords which overrule all good practices we want to follow for candidate experiences.
Thank you

Does previous working salary or CTC matter, if person is switching from Non-IT to IT role, and does non-IT background diminishes chances of hiring, even if candidate clears all interview rounds?
Non IT definitely impacts your chances, but in the long run it doesn’t matter. Once hired a top EM who was just a bcom grad but taught herself everything. You will take a big hit when making the switch but as your profile builds, past history matters less and less. Keep working to build your creds!
Thanks for insight, just what is "EM" and "taught herself everything ", what did she learned any specifics if possible, can you elaborate?
Did you switch from SE to recruiter? How did you plan the switch and what convinced you?
