[AMA] 9 years in Software Engineering in India. NW 2.5Cr

Hi, Firstly, congrats on achieving such a great Milestone! I have few doubts on what I need to do for my future but before that below is something about me. 'Currently working as an SRE at Morgan Stanley (Senior Associate) with good relations in the team and also an achiever in my entire global team. My TC is 21 LPA with 2 YOE and expecting a manager promotion in 1-2 years. I have investments and Savings of around 5 Lakhs.' My query is I feel saturated in my current role and team but fear shifting due to me being sole bread earner in my Family and lot of Family Problems and low confidence in myself but still wanted to further my career. Should I wait for a few more years and then shift the company to a Start-up for more learning and development or move to Product based? Also feeling lonely so start or at least try for dating or ignore this and grind more and concentrate on my career? How did you start with stocks? Is this after learning sufficient knowledge or you had some help? TIA

How many times did you switch companies? Is this nw reached only by salary or stock appreciation/ other side hustles? Any plan on buying a house in Bangalore? Are you married yet?

Here is my CTC progression over the years 1st - 12L 2nd - 12L (Switched Companies) 3rd - 15L 4th - 24L (Switched companies) 5th - 42L (Switched Companies) 6th - 48L 7th - 66L 8th - 72L 9th - 1.3Cr (Switched Companies) As you can see I almost everytimg doubled my compensation when I switched my companies. But there are reasons to stay at a company as well. If you are learning and are able to handle different problems at scale, stay. When you feel stuck, leave and look for better opportunities. I have never switched job to get more money. I love CS. I have been coding since 15 years. What made me switch was either bad managers, uninteresting problems not visibility of learning and growth.

Are those 90 lakhs unvested RSUs? Or is that just vested Amazon stock you are holding? If the later, that’s a significant portion of your net worth in a single stock. It’s fine if you have a massive risk appetite, otherwise you might want to consider diversifying.

1st -Is buying a house in late 20s to early 30s a good decision 2nd - how good is it to go for ms abroad live there for 5-10 years , do savings and return to India ? 3rd - how can one accumulate a net worth of 5cr in next 6 -8 years being in a product management roles who is just starting in his career 4- Getting a good female partner is very difficult nowadays as cheating and divorces are on a rise , what you have been observed about females in these years that what really they look for in men?

Hi, Firstly Congratulations for this amazing feat. I'm a CS graduate but after graduating in 2019 started preparing for govt exams, when that didn't pan out quite well, i switched to corporate, I have been working at a start up as an operations analyst form the past one year, Feeling claustrophobic here, want to switch to data analytics, I have decent understanding of python SQL and excel. Where do I go from here?

>>>>>>Investing<<<<<< Are my RSU vested? Yes. These are all vested stocks Are all RSU's from Amazon? No. I have worked in a few US MNCs and have held those stocks over these years. Majority of them is still Amazon though, but I believe in that company stock. Why just invest in stocks? I am a believer in the India growth story. Most of my stock portfolio consists of bluechip stocks, index funds and upcoming sectors like EV and Energy. I am a follower of marquee investors like Raamdeo Agrawal and Vijay Kedia. I believe in value investing Plans to invest in Real Estate? No I do not plan to invest in Real Estate in the next 4-5 years and one of my fundamental requirement in liquidity and transparency which I don't find in Real Estate. How much of my salary I saved and Invested? I come from a Tier-2 town. My parent have always been frugal. When I got placed from my Tier-1 college, I got see so my money, that it got crazy. (imagine getting 90k a month in 2015, coming from a pocket money of 2k a month). I enjoyed my money. Spent almost every penny every month on food, travel, booze, etc. Believe me or not, I actually started saving after my 3 years in the industry and investing after 4 years. But I don't regret it. I loved every every time of it. Ideally way of investing? I believe if you can, invest atleast 50-100% of your savings every month. People do advise to diversify, But I think that comes when you have a large corpus. I still have most of m money in equity and will diversify as it grows and my risk appetite decreases over time.

My NW is 3cr+. i started in 2021. House worth 1.7cr, 1.1cr vested stock, car, cash 15L, 2L in stock market

Hi @kungfubride Kudos to your achievement. That's a long way you have come. I've been working as a Product Engineer for 4 years and my TC is 13 LPA. I want to know how you were consistent in your path and does staying loyal in a company do any benefit for you? Also, I'm planning to switch and need some guidance for that, will you be able to assist me?

Please give one place where I can own crypto legally in India although by paying taxes. I want to park my excess money for long term 🙏🏻🙏🏻

A student here From which college did you study ? Any tips for students who are just learning coding? Ps I just ended the competitive exam hassle a month ago after my successful clearance of jee advanced and started coding (ps im finding it fun Also Mt aim is to earn a lot of money 💰 I might probably get ai in nit like svnit surat whose package goes up to 52 lpa in 2023 and also I'll pass out in 2028
