Ageism at workplace?

For me age is genuinely just a number. And work is worship. Yet, having people who are often my age or sometimes 10-20 years older than me reporting to me - becomes a discussion. Why is “age” even a discussion if one has proved their merit and mettle?

In a country with a growing young population, we have some randomly contrasting values.

Of course, basic respect for all is just a fundamental in the team’s culture.

Do you think an employee should “respect” another employee just by the virtue of age?

Ageism is discrimination based on age. You avoid working/promoting with people in certain age groups

That group is old people mostly.

Not necessarily, younger ones discriminate against old and older ones diss younger ones

That’s not ageism

This is just a shorter version, but what’s ageism according to you?

Ageism means discrimination against older people. Read Wikipedia.

Imagine you having the report to someone 10-20 years younger. Merit is overrated in the industry. Loads of luck due to which you end up in situations favourable or unfavourable to you.

Agreed. I think OP would think differently if the roles were reversed. Also to note, with age comes experience of different situations and the ability to handle them. For the right talent this skill should not be underestimated
