Depends on what work you do. Someone who can manage Jenkins pipelines, comfortable with creating sandboxes on AWS, mid-to-pro knowledge on Scripting (Bash / Python), Ansible, Kubernetes and Service Meshes and hands-on UNIX knowledge with 3-4 years experience gets paid between 8-14L where I work. The upper bracket is for someone who is a self-starter, can understand the infra that is already there by just reading pipelines and code (12-14L). The mid tier (10-12L) is for someone that needs to be told the context behind the existing infra and can pick it up from there. The lower tier (8-10L) is for someone who has some hands-on on all technologies mentioned above but would need significant hand-holding to solve issues and make enhancements. Most Indian companies follow the blanket rule of giving 30% over your last drawn CTC. So, I’d say ask for at least 8. You can try 12-14L if you’re really confident about your skills. Check glassdoor / ambitionbox for an estimate of how much salary a devops engineer gets in the company you’re applying for and ask for the salary accordingly. Don’t go to Google and ask for 14L. 🫨
