Am I a bad person if I remove those LinkedIn connections who are not from very famous companies and also just seems to increase their connection list

Recently I have joined a seemingly good company. Since a while, I have witnessed a surge of linkedin request and I have accepted all of them, I even referred everyone who asked, gave them tips on their resume also and responded properly to everyone's query. However, lately I have witnessed that many linkedin connections are sort of from less known companies or freshers. The thing is even I want to move ahead further and thus want to connect with people at a better position than me, but as recently many of my connections have been fresher or from lesser known companies thus my mutual connections and suggestion have been also like same. I have been thinking of removing some of my recent connections, basically those who just sent request and since then have not pinged related to anything referral etc. I am unable to decide if I am a ad person for doing so. Basically I would be myself doing what they have done, so I am feeling a bit guilty if I do so, but on the other hand I also think that I have not rejected anyone's request till now and even I future won't do so, I just don't want to fill my connection with people who are just randomly sending request to everyone.

Please help me..

Your recent LinkedIn connections might only be connecting because of your job title/company, and that's just how the platform sometimes works.
It's totally okay to refine your network to better suit your needs.
Remember, your connections should support your growth and aspirations.
Don't feel guilty about removing connections that aren't serving you.
If someone genuinely wants to connect, they'll reach out again. Keep being kind and thoughtful, but also prioritize your own career journey. You've got this!

But won't that make me a hypocrite... If I will remove someone lower than me to move up my ved, why would anyone above me shall accept my connection request... That's what bugs me... Hope you understand my confusion.

No one's lower than you, no one's higher than you.

Your recent LinkedIn connections seem more interested in your job title than genuine engagement. It's understandable to want to connect with people who share your professional interests and goals.

While it might seem challenging to remove connections, it's essential to curate your network to best support your career journey.

Since, you're only planning to remove connections who haven't reached out to you for referrals, etc. and are just sending connection requests to anyone and everyone, you're not being hypocritical, you're simply prioritizing authenticity and meaningful connections.

It’s okay. I’ve also stopped accepting connection requests on LinkedIn unless it’s from a very specific set of top tier companies like Netflix, Stripe, Glean, Snap or HFTs.

But don't you sort of think that if you are not accepting connection request the why someone will accept your connection request.

That’s fine. Not looking for any new connections. Already have a good network for job switching/knowledge transfer.

The biggest problem with LinkedIn is - It gives less controls on the feed (maybe for right reasons as well). But the way people have started using LI for family photos, daily events, there’s lots of noise in feed. I don’t think controlling Signal-to-Noise is a BAD thing. You can do one more thing, accept the requests but don’t follow the new connection(s). It will keep you morally correct, yet a cleaner feed.

The problem is not of feed but of mutual connections... It's like if my connection has 10 freshers then mutual connection will show of their who might be frshr as well, but if they will from better companies so then my mutual connections will be of better companies.

Even if you accept the requests no issue, it isnt a hindrance to your growth on linkedin

The thing is then my suggestion also comes rok their feed whereas I want to connect with folks rok companies better than me...

Is it me or is it everybody facing this problem?

I don't feel like using Linkedin anymore. It's not because of its weird recommendation algorithm but the people on it. I don't understand why people connect if they don't want to help! I literally asked 10 people on Linkedin, the very sa...

Regarding referrals.

So, I've recently joined a company and I've been getting a lot of requests for referrals from folks on LinkedIn whom I don't know personally.

I feel for these folks because I was in a similar situation a few months ago, trying very har...
