Just yesterday I took an auto ride on nammayatri. The driver was very chatty and towards the end of the trip, when I paid 164 for the ride, he said, if this was ola they would have taken 40% and given me the meter rate of 90. Big words from the ceo whose company charges this level of margin on people who are trying to make ends meet. Driver said he doesn’t use uber or ola anymore, since the launch of namma yatri.

1. 70hr workweek leaves less time for enjoying for youngsters, which means less spending. Most people with surplus money are stuck in jobs that don't allow them to spend it in economy and even reduce the multiplier effect. If you want to increase incomes across the board, those incomes need to flow down which only happens when consumption is strong.
2. Automation, AI has increased. Time at work won't help or make you competitive as much as reskilling or investments at workplace would. Murthy shud rather invest in a lot of nocode technologies and revamping legacy codes in his clients offices which haven't been touched because every generation of coders has procrastinated the revamp.

As if we have been working any less than the world already. Such a dumb proposition.
The thing we have a shortage of (compared to the leading countries) is great leadership who can build businesses that compete globally, not working hours.
Brute force working hours aren't going to make any meaningful impact - but that will definitely make Mr. Murthy and others even wealthier at the expense of the employees.
The breed raises its head again - Murthy, Bhavish, Pritlstyn care founder, Shantanu Deshpande. It laughable though when Murthy says this while his legacy is a sweatshop

Isn’t it a bit too convenient for CEOs to be making such statements? Sure, they’d work 70 hours a week because they’re getting the most out of it. Incentivise your team to work as hard, and maybe they would too. Don’t expect people to work extra hours without extra compensation when you yourself would charge a bomb for even an hour of your time.

I don’t think most people would be able to improve their productivity (let alone double it) if the pay is doubled. The premise itself is wrong. We are very adept at doing pretend work which adds no value but seems like a lot of tasks.
As the saying goes, the work expands to fill the time a person has.
For infosys, it makes sense for employees to work 70 hours a week. Many learn directly on the job/project, and infy could improve the delivery times if they spend time. They benefit with better skills and faster promotions. That’s not a template for everyone.
But doubling input giving double output betrays a lack of understanding of how maths works or how people work.
