Bandhs of Bangalore

I moved to Bangalore earlier this year. Like the weather, like the people, like the breweries. All good. But what is even up with the Bandhs that happen in this place? I feel like there have been at least 5 since I moved in. For being India's "Silicon Valley", just these disruptions in operations are not very good. For the pure tech companies, it's not too bad. But when trying to execute something operational in nature, it's much much more tougher. For the larger companies, they have learnings and experiences across covid etc, and have a larger #operating partners who can help them out in cases of downtime. The smaller ones are caught figuring out. Of course, in some way it's not a very big deal. We've learnt from worse times. But it's just that I've not seen this happening as much in Mumbai/Delhi. What's up with the Bandhs of Bangalore? 🤔

Geographical disadvantage, fragile social temperament and insecure populace. Bangalore is at the cusp of Karnataka, AP and TN. Most of the working class is native Telugu / Tamil speakers; majority of them are bi / trilingual, have been in Bangalore for generations and so it's difficult to figure out their native tongues at the surface. Local Kannadigas have always been under the perceived threat of the overwhelming lack of clout in the blue collar or other job opportunities. This insecurity bubbles up from time to time. Save Kannada. Vehicle number plates in Kannada. Don't give Cauvery water to TN. etc. It shows up extravagant displays of Kannada pride - the 8 ft x 4 ft red and yellow flags flying on auto rickshaws on 01 Nov being peak exuberance. By and large everyone is peace loving, the lumpen elements need space and time to let off steam and thence the bandhs.
