Been hearing this a lot these days where companies are firing a bunch of people and forcing some others to resign, to bring down the severance cost.

What are these situations created by these companies which actually force people to resign?

Standard stupid Indian HRs. Asking to share screen and resign. If you don't resign threatening to withhold the experience letter etc.

A few people who are in advanced stages of the process and/or have offers from slice have been asking me whether it's a good idea to join.

My answer has always been consistent and I'm posting this so that people have more clarity.

Good folks are leaving in droves which is why they are trying to fill in some roles fast.

The company doesn't have a proper CTO, with engineering being managed by two people, one the head of analytics and data science being the 'people mananger' who is highly under-qualified for the job, and the second a toxic and borderline abusive character who is the 'chief architect'.

On top of that, there are some AHs from Bizops who'll do everything to blame you if things go wrong and steal credit if things are good, making your day worse rest of the time.

The critical Glassdoor reviews are totally true, and present points in an elaborate manner, while the few positive ones are clearly planted with 1-2 lines written for each.
Plus the company is suppressing many reviews with the help of community guidelines.

Your package might have a generous ESOP component, but it is bloated and the company is looking to raise the next round at a highly diminished valuation.

There are more things in life than a few lakhs of extra base pay, for your long term well being.

I'm speaking about it openly since I left the org for a better opportunity recently and I don't want people to suffer more.

Your mental health isn't worth a slightly higher base pay in slice

Slice is a known red flag. Stay away at all costs.

The company haven’t paid us 3-6months of salary saying that there’s a delay in raising VC funds. They also didn’t pay TDS and gave us Form 16 for ITR. 

I reached out to our client company where I worked briefly and they were happy to offer me a job there. I’m dangerously out of money in savings and it’s still uncertain in my current company about any funds. So I have given a early date to him because I really need their salary and joining bonus to survive actually. I thought I can immediately relieve from my current company as I don’t have finished projects and haven’t involve in new. But they are not responding to my calls and mail requesting for immediate resignation. 


What should I do now ?

My company is delaying acceptance to my resignation

Acceptance of resignation has no value, the day you resigned is considered for notice period start date.

Going through something similar where the management has laid off 1/3rd the total team via forced resignation and without any severance. A bunch of folks who stood up to ask for reasons, severance etc are being threatened with termination and bad experience letter (and even lawsuits)

Could really use your take if you or your colleagues have gone through something similar.

Hi folks,
It’s a very detrimental time for me. I have been working with an organisation I don’t want to name. My manager is beyond Toxic, each day there hasn’t been a single day he hasn’t yelled at me and few other new folks in the team regardless of us doing heavy sweeping.

He is so Toxic that even through I have leaves he does not approve them, recently someone in my family passed away even through I discussed I will be out of station and would be on leave to which he agreed. He has rejected it on the 2nd last day, when I have booked the flights and assured my family that I will be there at this grave time when they need me. 

I am at a point where he has pushed me to a point wherein I don’t have an option but to resign which he did around the financial year closing so the increment will be divided amongst less number of people. 

I have an education loan to look after and responsibilities of my parents, I am the single  breadwinner in the family at this point of time. Hanging in there is becoming really difficult. 

Any advice or help would really help.

A lot of people at Unacademy have already resigned, and they are unable to hire replacements from the market( for who knows what reasons). Now as we all know people who are left in the organisation are going to have a tough time. 

Leaves not being approved, longer hours at work, mental harassment in the name of being available 24*7  is becoming a day to day thing. Now they are forcing people to take up sections of business one has never dealt with and are threatening to fire them if they are denying those roles. 

People who left the organisation in 2022 are the luckiest and well a bunch of well informed individuals who saw the end of this company before anyone else could have.

Major Shakeup at Unacademy

My senior  just got fired for questioning  his low appraisal from company.The guy literally build all the backend ,infrastructure and all. From which they are making money.
Management  said _ we don't have work for you here.And then when he said ok fine iam quitting  they didint even give him 2 months notice period. 
He was asked to leave that day only.

The Management is not even giving him 4 yr experience  letter . Telling  he didint serve notice period. 

His stack are angular, php,llm models.
One of the smartest guys I have met.

So group if u guys have a refrel please reply.

He is expecting  from 14_20lacs.

Nobody even bothers to know thier rights as employess due to the state of poor law enforment, slow courts, and sometimes influential upper management in companies/ startups.

I was the second engineer at a crypto wallet startup that shut down early this year. The founder had promised to issue shares that’d be 1%-2% of company. I trusted the guys and never asked for a share certificate. BIG MISTAKE.

When we got a pre-seed check they refused to give me anything above 0.2% and tried to settle with a little more money. I resigned the same day.

Indian employees have no right!

Looking for genuine and non diplomatic answers since it will be anonymous. It is upto you to reveal the name of the company you resigned from.

Lets discuss!!! I will go first -

I quit my last organisation (a famous UPI company) in 2020 because, they still are in old technology. No cloud computing, no kubernates, no terraform. Their entire baremetal infra are in 2 DCs (Mumbai and Bangalore). Leadership ideas are outdated. I was very much bored and looking for a change.

Why did you resign?

Amount of effort i put and the salary i got was not proportional. 14 hrs to get 30k salary as a fresher. I had understood that I deserve better - thus i moved to get better pay and better wlb (which I got in swiggy)

A few days ago, one of the senior folks used his influence to get latest 6 months data from the competition (who is kicking their ass). Shows the data to the CEO and other C level folks. Gets a broader audience too. 
Funny part: code of ethics clearly stated that no corporate espionage. 
Should I report to the board or someone anonymously or should I just ignore ?
I am so pissed that I want to move on from this organisation.

So I guess I hit the mid-life career crisis and finally resigned from Microsoft abruptly yesterday. 

Reasons for resignation:
1. I am saturated with my work and feel out of fuel now.
2. No Pay Raise or Stocks since 2 years.
3. No Promo in last 2 years even after being a top performer and winning multiple awards and accolades.
4. Was promised by my manager that I will be promoted in Feb but now he/she quotes budget.

What my manager says:
1. You have a valid L1B, don't resign.
2. Says you will get the promo in September but now it is not possible.

Please Note: I resigned abruptly without any offers in hand. I guess managers think that folks who have L1B won't resign so their promo can be delayed.

Half of me wanna yell at you for being stupid, but other half tells me you know better about appreciation and promo thing within org. If you don’t regret it, it’s good then!

I've been working with ICICI since 2008 everythg was fine I had mny promotions wid a promotion too in the last FY of my recent working tenure..n then all of a sudden before few days of COVID, our profile staff received a mail that they going to end the whole profile from the very next day...the question is now how our profile staff going to make it thru when our profile was ended in a day and bank wud not b doing much, rather then depending on the people already there in other departments higher profiles to adjust us into the system somewhr....n as we all was handling audit profile so sumtimes we had to be a bit strict for getting the staff asking them to follow the process..making them do additional stuff was always taken as a burden so but obvious due to which we r no one's fav either..tht never liked us much..hence the implications was no departments head wanted us to become a part of the teams that to from a operations profile in a bank full of sales targets in every department it was a big no no..finally after taking all the measures to save our jobs when nothing worked out .. one fine day i received a call from HR tht either u leave the job by your own or we have to fire you (it was sugary quoted but obvious) inconveniently i had to leave the job.. without a backup job..after 13 plus years of work ex..i feel cheated as after receiving the bestest rating and a promotion in the previous recent year of my tenure with all my hardwork n a travelling job, as a single parent, staying away from my four year kid at home leaving him wid my parents ..just bcoz the profile was  finished i was all of sudden not of any use  n 'no one' to the ICICI Bank..overall this is the culture of many companies asking the employees last minute to leave..the more I love n felt proud working for 'MY' ICICI Bank the more betrayed i felt when i had to leave it abruptly..thts y PPL say "Love your job, not the Company" . A learning I took back home pretty late
