Can we solve the problem of youth unemployment in India?
First thing, first I have met Kaushik Basu in person. With my experience with that guy, believing such numbers can be tricky.
Secondly, let’s take an example from our neighbor, the one who took big advantage of their demographic dividend in 90s/00s - China.
Think of any electronics device, toy or chemical API. The probability of it having “Made in China” is 99%. So despite having a non-English speaking population (which is a big disadvantage in itself), they improved the life of their citizens. In short, manufacturing has power to uplift a big chunk of population.
In one line - more & more manufacturing needs to happen in India. I am not in favor of putting unfriendly duties on “Made in X” products but Indian manufacturers need to invest more. Private/Public investments are still lagging in manufacturing.

Though I completely agree here, manufacturing is very very cost intensive. If you thrown high end technology, rhe budget goes for a toss.
I have first hand seen how manufacturing has upgraded lives of people, owners and workers likewise. But dip in demand, maybe cyclical, create havoc retaining money and human resources
In my pre-MBA life I’ve worked in one of the most sophisticated manufacturing - Semiconductors. Yes, it is cost intensive but returns are equally lucrative. Moreover, semicon manufacturing is becoming more & more important now when our dependency is insanely high on external world. The underlying semicon infra impacts all things related to computation, we saw a glimpse during covid.
3 Asian tigers got benefited from semiconductors manufacturing and still roaring (Singapore, Taiwan & Korea).

The only way that Employment problem can be solved is by understanding emplyoyability of the youth.
In India, there already exists multiple government aided resources of skilling and upskilling like NPTEL, C-DAC from higher skilled set, ITI-IGNOU for medium and semi skilled and vocational schooling for basic.
.
The issue is correct segregation and activation of these services.
A lot of countries have segregation quite early ( Looking at Gymnasia System in Germany) and others. Demographic Dividend will only yield rewards if you actually leverage the skill segments into correct fields.
This is being improved continuously if you look at education policy on a national level, but communication and people's aspiration is out of touch with the real world.
Communication is needed more from both youth as well as the government.
pls don't give any political answers! no political party can really solve it. Want to learn some new pov, how other countries may have solved it in the past etc
The answer is simple for whatever extent of unemployment. Manufacturing. Manual labour. Strong family systems leading to people sharing, saving, and caring. Liberalism destroys family systems and leads to new kinds of misery. The employment numbers are BS. Doesn't track "unskilled" labour market. Your autowallahs, drivers, kirana shop owners.
We need less people. That is the simple answer.
I don't get why dumb fucks were celebrating when we crossed China's population. The job market is not designed to just magically create
Millions of skilled jobs every year
Earth's resources are limited and we're not going interplanetary anytime soon in next 100 years. So yeah, we need a population control bill. Also, part of the reason India had such a baby boom was because of parents preferring boys. I'm a millennial but had a friend who had 3 sisters before him. Both our families are by all means lower middle income but the desire for a boy child just makes people yanking the machine
Retards think their pension funds will magically get their returns with declining population. Dimwits think younger ones aren't needed to replace ageing ones and magically expect manual labour to be taken over by non existent robots. Those who think population is a problem should first kill themselves.

Everyone will say that the unemployed got no skills but i would like to argue those getting hired from college are also unskilled. It's just that someone is giving them an opportunity to learn on the job
If they work for providing jobs then who stand in their political rallies?
Saw a news report by an investigative journalist that govt officials are forcing new Railway employees to record a video thanking Supreme leader for the job, otherwise they won't get their joining letters.
Situation is real bad
They are making it worse. People voted for reducing cost of living and 15lac. Lol. They lost both and are now after relegion. I swear things were much better with the prev govt.

Source of data says youth = 15-24 years old. This is a key piece of information.

It is a structural issue, which starts with high cost of capital. Look at NBFC they charge 20%+ because their cost of capital is >= 10%.
Then NBFC lend to SME etc.. how many businesses in hyper competitive India can command such pricing power to service debt at 20% interest rate?
Answer is very few and hence less employment opportunities.
Also by DNA Indians are risk averse and born traders - no one is interested in creating value. Seeking employment is a very low risk venture.
So yes, no demographic div will be realized. Not even outside chance.

In the next 10 years ~ 20 crore population will enter working age. It is impossible to create so many jobs.
