Ratio of designers to devs is roughly 1:10- 1:15 at most companies and it’s much more competitive to get. Also there’s a hard cap on number of designers - because most design output is dependent on dev bandwidth to implement.    
    
 Unless you have a natural inclination and aptitude I would not recommend especially in this market (especially if you don’t have a design educational background)  
  
 Salaries are also roughly 60 - 80% of a dev in a comparable position.

Hi guys, I am in my final year of college and will be starting at Ford as a SWE (which I am grateful for considering the job market). However, in the past few weeks UI/UX has really peaked my interest. Since my teenage, I really loved computers but wasn't really sure what I loved about them so I studied Computer Science at uni.

How can I switch my careers now? Also, wanted to know about salaries in this field (not a priority but definitely weighs in decision making as someone from middle class).

hello, I am in my senior year and will be joining as software engineer at a big automobile company. However, product design has really piqued my interest in the last few weeks. I find it more interesting and comes more "naturally" to me. For eg, I've built several apps and released them on the Play Store and found UX more enjoyable than the technical decisions I make.

Would you say UX is really much more competitive even for senior positions? (because swe is also too competitive in junior positions). I am a bit confused about my long term career (whether should I stick to swe or transition to product design role). This dilemma is very confusing and your inputs would be valuable :D

I am currently working as an Industrial Designer at a Startup ( 14 LPA ). I have a Master’s Degree in Design from Indian Institute of Science. I am not finding jobs and am very confused about wether to continue as an Industrial Designer since I see very less demand as of now. I want to move out of architecture - the work is stressful, long hours, not enough pay and the only ways to earn more and get growth is to go into construction and real estate which I'm not fond of. Is moving into design field in other sectors good? in terms of work life, pay and job market?

I have always dreamt of playing an electric guitar on stage. I started to learn guitar in late 2020 and it's been 1.5 years since I stopped playing it do to multiple reasons like bad time management, upskilling for switching, work etc.

I always wanted to work in companies not directed towards IT such as Mercedes Benz, Philips, Samsung,  Siemens, Ather etc and work in areas where UI/UX design overlaps with physical product design. Physical product design is my first love and will continue to be so as that field still fascinates me. Not everyone is privileged enough to pursue their passions and might have to work in certain areas where they are partially interested and pay is good coz, hey! We gotta pay bills.

I wanted to learn multiple languages and was learning German a couple of years ago. Again, due to the reasons listed above, I had to drop out. I want to travel abroad for work, work in multi cultural teams etc.

I always wanted to run marathons and reach the top of Nandi Hills (a hill on the outskirts of Bangalore) by cycling because I was once a obese kid and wanted to prove myself wrong. Now, I have to loose 13 kilos and I'm on working on it. But I sometimes wonder if I can do these things as I had so much to work on.

I was pretty good in sketching. In fact, I was pretty good once upon a time in my design school. Now, I barely sketch. I don't want to loose that part of me who use to sketch day and night. I want to have an Instagram page with all the digital illustrations I wanted to make.

We live in times where one has to consistently switch jobs, upskill everyday, spend time with family and friends (not that I don't want to, but I also love my personal time), take care of aging parents, take care of kids, take care of household, travel to work, get enough sleep for 6-7 hours a day- basically be an adult.

I sometimes wonder if life is nothing but a graveyard of dreams. I understand that one can't do everything in life and sacrifice is inevitable in life.

Folks who are 30 y/o and above, do you still have dreams or are following your dreams while responsibilities pile up in life?

What's the job market like for product designers as of now? Feeling to switch.

I'm currently a 2nd year student at a state government college in Chennai. I'm doing a course that I don't have a good interest in ( Information tech).

What is the future scope of the PM job role...will it still be relevant after 10 years, Is going to IIMs spending close to 25 lakhs in this economy to get into a PM job role justified??

Iam a product designer, plus ui developer 
Iam a full time ui developer in my 9_5 company ( angular,tailwind,ionic)
And iam a product designer in my second company .
Basically I deigned and launched a web app for edtech space, where we try to teach data science and machine learning to kids.

I do like product design more ,but  the reason iam sticking onto ui front-end is I feel like designers don't get much respect, people tell of its just colors and stuff, 
Iam thinking if I know design and also front-end, will I be able to jump to a better company with better pay,?

It is supremely obvious that SWEs are about to enter the golden era of Software Engineering. We are easily foreseeing 2x-2.5x improvement in developer productivity rate. You should go touch some grass or else you will end up becoming PM guru who shills substandard-courses to poor kids.
