They've hired Boston Consulting Group to help them carry out their plan. The plan is to cut atleast 10% in major units. The project is termed Project Bora Bora. 

They will be eliminating regional managers, co-heads and other employees with overlapping responsibilities.

Chief of staffs and chief administrative officers will be cut this month. Operations staff who aided divisions that have been divested or reorganized are also at higher risk of layoffs.

Consulting is often glorified, but it's common to see consultants who spout random facts, offer rationalizations, and underdeliver significantly. The job involves sucking up to seniors and pretending to know things you don't. Admitting ignorance is frowned upon, leading to a culture of covering up. It's a masterclass in office politics, but the notion that consultants add economic value is questionable. Many just take a cut from company profits while demanding overwork and underpaying employees.

Would an entrepreneur, who has built a profitable business from scratch and spent years in the industry, really need the insights, forecasts, and estimates from an MBA, CA, or Engineer who only signals confidence without substance? Consultants, emboldened by business school theories, often believe they add real value. Yet, investors don’t rely much on CA audit reports, and reputable policymakers often disregard consultant insights.

In our fast-changing world, capitalism won't let consultants exploit companies forever. Companies should hire people with more skin in the game, not consultants with little accountability for results.

Mine. I am a DevOps engineer at a fintech startup, I write server configurations for 45L/y and I work about 10 - 20 hours a week, remotely. I keep thinking they’ve figured out how easy my job is and decided to fire me and then instead they tell me I’m doing a great job and promote me 🤌🏻

It seems like the bear market effects are down upon consulting firms now too

Got to know from multiple people that were joining top consulting firms that their onboarding is deferred by 6 months (across places like Bain, McK etc)

Already enough existing employees aren’t on active cases, and so it seems like they’ve hired more than there is demand for cases, people who have actually been sitting on the bench for months 

If demand does not return, this could really stack up and lead to a problematic situation

Delayed onboarding across consulting firms (MBB too)

Ironic that consultants aren’t able to manage their hiring demand better 🤔

Best of the cultures are being degraded by consultants whose expertise is in 'mental masturbation', 'structuring thoughts' or 'defining problem statements' or using ABC frameworks.

There is no bias for action, absolutely zero team management skills and have a zero sense of products. The only goal is to match numbers X%,Y% just that -> no body cares about what users feel, are we building something meaningful, whats the insight -> none.

Worst feeling when you have a boss who is an ex-MBB consultant of 7 years.

I am very fascinated by Management Consulting and been speaking with ex consultants. All of them are critical of it, but agree the money is good 🤤

Need advice 

- Do these companies take lateral hires? I have seen only IIM candidates freshly graduated being taken in
I'm not IIM, but MBA with 6 years of work ex

- MBB have shittiest WLB and highest money. Which comes down as per tier. Which is the best tier to get into, so I have best of both worlds (less shitty WLB with lesser money)
