I am having 3. 6 years of experience in service based, but due to cost cutting and lack of project, I lost my job, asked to do force resignation. today is my last working day., I started preparing for product based companies  few months back. I completed dsa and started working on development to build some projects because I have zero knowledge on building applications. but this layoff happened in middle, Right now I have two options. Either join any any company that I get by makinng my profile as immediate joiner obviously it will be again service based company and it will be my 3rd company or shall I persue my dream of cracking or joinng in product or unicorn by having gap. I put lot of efforts for my goal now I am in middle of achieving it. Any suggestions  will be Appriciated. 
Comming to money side, I have made some savings to survive for 8 to 9 months because I am single so no responsibilities. But my only confusion is shall I let this gap or shall I join in any company immediately, if I need to join any company then I have to join again in service based company. Please suggest me which one to choose. Also will Gap matters for my next employer.

I want to quit my job and take a break. 

I Have been contemplating to do the same for almost an year but decided not to do it. So many things have happened since then

1. Layoff wave started in india
2. Got married
3. Had to move back to bangalore from hometown

Reason I want to quit is I don't feel like working , feeling bored and work doesn't interest me that much. 

I want to take a break chill for a bit but don't have guts to do the same considering market conditions ( what if I don't get a job when I am back in the market😅) 

Please give any advice on how to tackle this situation or if someone has gone through the same, would love to hear your experience. 

Also how is the product hiring currently in India? 

PS:  I do have a good runway for 4-5 months considering all expenses but I am scared to take the step

Hello everyone,I am 2021 CS graduate.I was preparing for GATE  exam for my mtech.But I couldn't perform well enough to get good college.I will probably get around 4000 rank this year.(I know this not good rank for general category and I won't get my desired college/course)I have very good conceptual understanding of CSE subjects like DS, algorithms, databases,and operating systems.But I haven't done any programming and any practical implementation of these.(I only have good btech project on my resume)I have decided to take upcoming TCS NQT to get my first job in IT field.

Hello people,
I graduated last year and joined a fast-paced startup back in july as an SDE (2023 grad). So many things have changed so far within the company. Company has closed good series B funding. The top level management has changed, my manager and colleagues resigned due to the kind of work and cultural shift and lots of work but I stood there and delivered projects (was making them from scratch). Whatever was thrown on me during this time, I took that as an opportunity and delivered that. I literally worked on 4-5 tech stacks and built complex projects from scratch with 3 members team only.

Now it seems like their ask is never ending and they again want me to put in another techstack since the existing products we built are working fine and we are just maintaining it now. The culture of the company is still very good despite having lots of work though the pay is above average.

I am seeing my friends around me joining another company and getting much better hikes. I also want to make a switch but deep down in my heart I have these questions coming up:

1. Should I switch before completing 2 years since it's my first job and I have spent only 1 year so far here. I really don't want to make this habit of switching again and again.

2. The kind of bonding I have made with my colleagues so far. Will I be able to get the same environment in the new company?

3. Should I join the startup again or should I target MNCs now. Because I have been building multiple complex projects for the past 1.7 years (this is my 3rd startup) from scratch and this is also getting normalized for me. Is it time to work on a scale?

4. Feel less valued sometimes. Despite delivering lots of efforts, it seems like I am not getting valued much because it's kinda hardware company and things go around that only.

5. Although, I am working on complex projects here but sometimes I feel missing out if I hear what others are doing. Should I go to a pure software based company?

6. I am not making much here to be honest despite having much better coding skills (10 base + 2.5 PB + 2.5 VP) but I am able to manage  my money well despite living in Bangalore. Should I be hungry for more?

I would be happy to read your opinion on these guys.

is it a good idea to resign without a job offer ?
Lately, I've been in a very bad office culture which impacted my personality poorly. I started having self doubts, problem in my marriage (got married 1 month back but my manager didn't granted me leave so didn't got a chance to celebrate my marriage, not even the honeymoon) , problem with my health (cholestrol level raised severely high), lost 5 kgs, grey hairs and what not. 
so, my mind is telling me to quit the job, take a gap, travel somewhere freely without carrying a laptop and again after 2-3 months , get back finding a new job.
but i am also scared that what if I dont get a job again? what if i dont get opportunity for working with such a big organisation?
what are your thoughts/suggestions ?

[Long post warning]
I've 4YOE and I'm thinking of quitting my job due to various reasons, but I don't have any other offers in hand. I'm preparing well for the interviews, and have prepared DSA properly till now. But the system design bit is still pending, so I haven't applied anywhere yet. Due to work, I'm not able to focus on preparation and give time to it. I'm having just 3-4 hours of sleep on a daily basis as I'm literally grinding on the preparation side, but it requires more effort than this. My family has started worrying about my health and, after the EY incident, they are asking me to take my time and just go through the hassle of work, or quit my job if it's too much to handle. 

I'm willing to quit my job right now, and I'm confident that I'll get an offer within 3 months, but I can't pull the plug on this, considering a hell lot of uncertainties in the market. I currently have enough savings to stay in Bangalore for at least 6-8 months. But still, taking this step seems pretty huge for me since it's my first job, and I've seen my parents'faces whenever I talk about quitting, it's not good. 

Now coming to the reasons for quitting. I'm not sure where to start, and I'll not go into details. I just don't like to work here anymore. For the last 2 years, I've been working on shitty things which have stunted by growth professionally. The management is shit, and all they care about is deliverables and visibility. I've been a Java backend developer for the last 2.5 years, and before that I was a Data Engineer. I switched my team in the same company 2.5 years ago because I wanted to work on backend development and not on data pipelines. But for the majority of time I've only worked on data pipelines while being a Java developer. I've asked them a number of times in the last 2 years to put me where I have skills and interests, and every time all they do is make false promises of "good work" coming in the following quarter. I was willing to give my 200% into my work if I like it, but they just wanted me to work on whatever gets assigned to me and find my interests there itself. It's been going on like this for 2 years. Recently I had a connect with my manager, and he mentioned that the kind of work that I'm looking for won't be coming in this team, so either I should go to the other team (which is even worse in management), or I should just go. What's making me go mad is, it took them 2 fking years to tell me this? I got to know that they were not willing to let me go bcuz I was a good resource for them and, considering my experience with Data Engineering before, they were assigning me such tasks because I could finish those early without anyone's help. Other developers would have to learn about it first and then deliver. So, all this time it was actually possible for them to put me somewhere else, but they didn't. Now I've lost all my trust in this company, in my managers and the whole management. It's your job ffs to use me as a resource where I want to excel so that I stay highly motivated and productive. That'll benefit us both. But all they care about is how much I deliver and how much I make myself visible to the leadership for my promotion. 

I've been depressed now, and don't have any will to go to the office and work there. I've stopped doing everything that a normal human being does to enjoy his day to day life, with a mindset that I'll do it later after I switch. I don't know what to do.

months and suddenly they terminated me in 3rd month since 1 was still in probationary period
and they said, my performance was not upto the mark/Which I don't believe)

4th Company/Mid Size Company | Name Appears in PF) - Worked for 11 months. My parents
were looking for a match for me. Left voluantarily, in order to get a high CTC. No problems here

5th Company/MNC | Name Appears in PF) - Currently working here. It's been almost 1.11 years
and counting

One of my frien d had referred me to GE through his senior and the feedback that he got was,I
have changed many companies in short span of time. 
So my question is this:
Iwill remove the second company from my resume and add that experience to the 3rd one
while giving interviews or when the recruiter asks for the cv.
And then once everything is over and at the time of offer release I will provide the proper
documents to HR for bGV. will this work? Has anyone tried this in the past?

The problem is, I cannot completely remove 2nd company as it would reduce my exp and it will
create unnecessary problems w.r.t my passing out date and relevent exp
And I cannot remove the 3rd company as it's name appears in pF forms. Hope you guys are able
to see my dilemma here.

Any/all help will be much appreciated.

Need Advice regarding switching

Currently I’m a software engineer in corporate. But now my company has full demotivated environment and I’m not able to work or deliver my tasks.
I’m applying for other companies also . But don’t even get interviews scheduled.

What should i do?
Should i go for govt jobs also?
Should i resign first then decide?
Should i continue working ?
Should i think about career switching?

My brain itself is not braining , and filled with such thoughts.

Am currently in a circuital branch of a nit (graduating in 2025) preparing for tech jobs , not one of those brilliant minds , okayish on leetcode trying to cover major dsa topics and important questions.
But everyday I keep hearing about layoffs, AI, recession, cost cutting etc
Should I do something different, should I keep preparing  for tech jobs or I should shift to core jobs or GATE, really confused !!

Hey everyone,
I am kinda product guy. Since my 3rd year this industry fascinated me. I have done 1 year as a software developer with fintech and edtech startup after graduating from IIT Bhubaneswar. Since two months i am thinking i can add more value in product management rather than product development. Please share if you have any leads.

Looking for product management job. (On notice period)

For some context: I have about 4.5 YoE & 3 years directly in product along with Master’s level qualification. Primarily have worked with early stage start ups and have experienced similar challenges in each so avoiding this segment and red flag companies (taking Glassdoor, ambition box reviews as the basis here)
But a few people/seniors are suggesting to consider any opportunity with any kind of company as the market is bad. 

So wanted some perspective on the risk of career gap on resume vs being stuck in a similar company and going through the same job search process maybe 6 months or a year down the line? What would be a better trade off? 

P.S: Currently I am able to focus on overall up skilling and whatever is needed to clear job interviews and have decent financial security & runway. 

Any advice/perspectives are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi folks,
I recently got laid off from a startup where 50% of the engineering team was let go. I was working as an SDE and during a restructuring, my role was changed to SDE-2 without any increase in pay or responsibilities. I have a total of 2.5 years of experience. In my first company (where I worked for a year), there weren't many projects, so I didn't have the opportunity to learn or code much. However, in my second company, I primarily worked on the backend using Go, Django, Kafka, MongoDB, & PostgreSQL.
I realize that although I gained exposure in my second job, I didn't delve deeply into the technologies. I mainly focused on completing business tasks quickly, learning new things just to finish the task at hand, without solidifying my understanding afterward.
My experience seems suitable for an SDE-2 role, but I'm unsure if I can perform the role with complete honesty and may struggle. Some friends in similar situations reassure me that this struggle is common in SDE-2 roles. However, I feel I might be better off starting again as an SDE-1, focusing on my weak areas, and aiming for a promotion later. There are very few SDE-1 job openings currently.
I am actively interviewing for SDE-2, and not able to clear system design interviews. Tbh, I feel very humiliated as when I am not able to answer their questions it feels like I am wasting their time or they would be thinking: Oh this guy has been working for so long and doesn't even know anything.

Now I get it why people think Indian Software engineers are not that good in comparison to other countries' devs: the reason is people like me. 
This realization burdens me with guilt, occupying my thoughts constantly. However, I am confident that I can crack SDE-1 easily. I have good DSA & good enough LLD, &HLD skills for SDE1. I am looking for companies who can match my prev Salary: 22 L, 2 Bonus.
Can u help how to navigate this career situation effectively without increasing my guilt or feeling constantly humiliated?

Laid Off | Stuck Now | Too Anxious | Please guide

First work on the feeling of humiliation and self worthlessness. Don't ignore this, I've done it and it's one of my biggest regret. Working on this will feel a waste of time initially given job search is highest priority, I assure you your future self would thank you.  
  
 Now you are clearly very self aware, most incompetent people don't even know their shortcomings. And you know what, many comparatively incompetent people are making much more money, having much less self doubt and just living more - it's like being more self aware is a curse.  
  
 How do you get out of this curse? It's a slow process. Write down the things that make you feel that way, come up with an an action plan on what you could do to reduce that - clear goals and actions always relive anxiety. Writing things down is extremely important, keep coming back to it whenever you feel the same way, eventually you would reason your way out of this. Most of the time you are in a loop, living in guilt and self doubt for the same reasons over and over. Documentation of these feelings over time will make it look so silly, how could the same problem give you so much mental pain again and again.  
  
 You will do just fine career wise. With a few more years of experience, I can guarantee you will evolve over time, the problems giving you so much mental pain would seem very trivial then - that if you are able to resolve these feelings - otherwise it's a hell I wouldn't want for my worst enemies.  
  
 Some questions to ponder over -  
 1. Can you do the job search while being just a little gentle on yourself? 
 2. Does failure mean you have no worth? Can you fail more gracefully?  
 3. Does 2.5 years of mistakes(even if it see that way) mean you can't do amazing things in coming years? 
 4. Above all, does feelings of humiliation and worthlessness help you in any way? If nothing else changes, wouldn't it be better to just be a little gentler on yourself? 
  
 Take care, you don't have a career problem, a mental health one instead
